Before all the drama starts I would just like to state that no matter what happens, win or lose, its ONE game. Its the FIRST game for a new staff with new systems. IF we win, GREAT! IF we lose, remember its a long season. IF we win there will be posters crowing about an undefeated season. IF we lose there will be the other side of manic fandom posting that our season is over, Riley's a failure, TA sucks, never should have fired Bo, etc etc. IT'S ONE GAME. ENJOY IT. HAVE FUN. Win or lose we're in it for the long haul and man am I looking forward to this season...win or lose, either way.

Speaking as someone dealing with a serious health issue right now and as some one who had a healthy fit 54 year old friend go to bed the other night and not wake up....yeah. Winning isn't everything you relentless foolish troll. Enjoy the damned game. Enjoy your friends and don't lose your mind if we win OR lose. Go crawl back under your bridge and work on your next sermon.

"Sprinkles are for winners". - Flo

We all want the win, and we all want to see improvement. Unless BYU comes in and throws a Melvin Gordon type game on us, I doubt any would be calling for Riley's head (disclaimer is sober fans won't).

But I do see this first game as more than just one game. The program has been through a lot in the last 15 years, and losing this game to start off the new era would sting. This staff needs time and they will get it, but the whole program could use a splash of positivity and feel-good stuff again. This game could go a loooong way in helping the confidence grow in what these coaches are trying to accomplish.

If nothing else, this will be the first time in a long time, I would feel something if we lost. The last few years, I became numb to it.

I thought it was clear that we were talking about a football team. I am going to miss the first half of the game to spend time with my boys at the TU-FAU game and will miss the 2nd half to be with a woman who has to tell her 90 year old mother that her own cancer has spread like wildfire and her mother very well may have to bury her.

I do hope and pray that you overcome your health issue. Life is waaaayyyy more important than football.

If we lose to BYU, the season is essentially over.

I agree with the long view on this. It is one game and the first challenge in a reconstruction project.

However, for me, being a member of the LDS church, I want to beat BYU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD I can taste it.

How glorious to go to church tomorrow with a smile on my fact (and in a Husker tie) versus enduring endless torment from my friends at church forever.

The crap you post on here make's one wonder what you value as important. I'll be watching to see what kind of vitriol you spout if things go poorly this year. Nobody likes to lose but some of the ridiculous whining and criticism that happens because of losing is disgusting. Some of the crowing and chest thumping because of winning is disgusting. Its a game. Enjoy it.

TT, ever since Bo was fired, you've been beating this drum that winning is the most important thing... Almost as if you are upset at the firing of a 9 win per season coach, even though you say otherwise.

It just gets old when you can't stop yourself from posting like this. Rather than always being antagonistic, why not let things play out a little?

That drum was being beat long before Bo was fired. I was one of the first to say he needed to go.

As far as vitriol...which posters showed vitriol on this board towards Bo? Which posters showed vitriol towards Kenny Bell? Which posters showed vitriol towards Tom Osborne? Which posters showed vitriol towards TMart?

Finally, how is wanting wins being antagonistic? I thought that is why they kept score. If we win today, I will go back and watch the game and be happy as a lark...it's what fans do.

And if we lose, you'll be on here incessantly making up crap about HP and SE. Bo deserved every bit of vitriol he got. Just like respect, you get what your earn. Tom turned a blind eye to Bo because his sphere of power was more important to him than anything else. It didn't matter what Bo said or did. It didn't matter what Bo's brother said or did. It was all about money, power and winning football games so YES, Tom deserved some of what he got too. Why don't you take your trolling elsewhere.

I guess in this line of thinking, one shouldn't even be on a fan message board to discuss something as meaningless as sports. I understand you may have a different outlook because of health issues and death, but please don't go high and mighty because some people want to get amped up for a football game that they hope they win.

Of course, there are extremes, but it's not wrong for people to get excited about the game and God forbid, hope Nebraska beats the crap out of BYU.

...and the vitriol continues. Who else is it PC to bash? I've got Bo, Els, Fisher, Barney, Ron Brown, (and the rest of the former coaches). Tom Osborne. TMart. Bell. The Regents. The blue hairs. Those who think winning is why we keep score. Anyone who doesn't agree with my list. Anyone who bashes someone else not on my list. Mormons.

A game is meaningful. The point is that TTom is already prepping for his "winning IS everything" trolls. The big POINT is that "at the end of the day"Sick its about the people. Its about how our kids are coached. Its about the example our coaches and players set for our young people. Its about doing things the right way and treating people the right way. Along the line you hope to win games but you can win all the games you want and if you treat people poorly it doesn't mean crap. Discuss the game. Have fun. I'm as amped as I have been for a season in a looooooooong time but IF things don't go well I hope posters on this board keep things in perspective. That's all.

It's not the fact that you want to win... It's that you demand it. The antagonism doesn't come from a desire to win but you have made it clear from the start that if Riley doesn't win at least 9 games this was a failed hire... There is no margin for error in your eyes. What if Riley goes 8-4 but is competitive? You have gone on record as saying that is a failure.

I don't believe you feel this way, but I think you have it in for posters who you felt weren't supportive of players like Kenny and Taylor. To me it feels like you are being antagonistic toward those posters just because you don't like how they treated the players on this message board. Whenever you get a chance, you seem to post little digs like this. Maybe I'm wrong. This is just my interpretation of things.

.
Never, ever, ever said that. Not even close. Do a search...Please! Was critical of the hire at that time it happened. Since then I have rarely said anything negative about Riley. For example, I have said that Riley needs time before we evaluate his recruiting. Relationships are not built in just a few months but over a few years.

LOL No. Only a win is acceptable. We fired a coach that won 9-10 games a year. New staff or not, our expectations should not be lowered just because this is a new staff. Riley is basically a .500 coach. That doesn't fly here. He can not afford to lose. The absolute bare minimum that should be expected is 9 wins period. We hired Riley to get us over the hump. I seriously doubt he can do it. But I will support him as long as he wins. If Riley inherited a Callahan Like team, then I would accept your post. But instead he inherited a pretty talented team with an incredibly easy schedule that if we lose today, it's an embarrassment. Nothing against BYU, but we are way more talented. BYU is the 4th best team on our schedule and they are mediocre. We have to win.

Yep, I did bash Harvey and Shawn for waiting so long to fire Bo. Here's the deal...Bo is now gone...thankfully. We have a new era where we need to get back to our winning ways. We just need to win today.

Nice first post! So how do you explain soooo many sports talking heads who are picking BYU? Not talking about the local yokels in Utah, but the guys like Mandel, Dienhart, Andy Staples, Kirk Herbstriet and others who watch a whole lot of football?

Yeah. We all are. You are obviously in the minority if you think we currently harbor championship talent. Also, you do realize if we lose today we are still in contention for the Big Ten title right?
Yes, I do. But I'm also not losing sight of big picture and season as a whole

Your entire post is irrelevant to what I said. Riley is a 5-6 win year coach replacing a coach who won 9 and 10 games each year. The whole point is, we hired Riley to get us past the 9-10 win hump. We hired him to win the games that mattered. I don't think he can do.

the media is basing things off the fact that Riley is a 500 coach, implementing a new offensive and defensive scheme with a QB not suited to run his offense.

However, we hired him to win games like this. If he can not beat BYU, he can't beat Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State, ect......

Time for him to earn his paycheck. Expectations shouldn't be lowered. Period.

Yeah,,,,, those Callahan like teams with Ndmakong Suh really sucked to inherit...What are you talking about?? Bo got worse and worse with his own players. The holes left from recent recruiting is one of the biggest problems this staff faces!

And the difference is..... Nothing.

Both would be (phillips) or will be multi-ys starters at a position NEB has struggled to recruit and retain talent with depth

The end results are and presumably will be...the same. With a talent like fant....tell him what he wants to hear to get him to sign #LOI.... then move him
Sorry, I don't let Eichorst speak for me. It's no excuse noting that the previous staff failed recruiting multiple position. Look no further than our linebacker position and defensive end position.

No. Going off the deep end is getting on the board cursing players when things don't go well. I haven't given up at all and I am pumped to see the season. I just have the perspective that things don't always start or turn out for that matter how you want. I'm just ecstatic that I have a head coach and staff that I can respect and that I think is qualified to do their job. That hasn't been the case recently for our head coach or SOME of his assistants. Let the chips fall where they may and the Bo-ners rooting for their failure be disappointed.
