"Our State"-related slogans and such are all the rage now. I understand "This is our State" is going to be a part of gameday, including multimedia content on the moo tube.<div>
</div><div>Its been mentioned here on SPS that it would be very cool to have the whole crowd cheering "THIS IS....OUR STATE" in the way that we currently do "MAROON...WHITE". The east side could yell "THIS IS", then the west side could yell "OUR STATE".</div><div>
</div><div>Well, let's try and make that happen. I've found 2 good email contacts for requesting a "THIS IS....OUR STATE" pre-game cheer. Please drop these folks a kind message and let your request made known:</div><div>
</div><div>[email protected] - Spirit Group Office</div><div><div>[email protected] - Melinda Nichols, Head Coach - Spirit Coordinator</div></div><div>
</div><div>My goal here is to make known our support for what would be a really awesome moment at Davis Wade Stadium. Let's not brow-beat these fine folks to death. Just a friendly suggestion would be great.</div><div>
</div><div>Sincerely,</div><div>

that could help this idea take off is, hopefully if this thread takes off with a lot of people that are for it, someone could send a link to this thread to one of thosecorrespondencelinks you posted.<div>
</div><div>Secondly...since we know Stricklin reads twitter... just tell a couple of our twitter users that are down with the idea hash tag the idea to him in a tweet and see if it'll get him interested as well.</div>

we play one team every two years in Starkville that would actually care. The rest of the conference would chant ...."OK......TAKE IT"</p>

Mississippi State lacks good cheers and always has.<div>
</div><div>We basically have three cheers.</div><div>1. Go State, Go State</div><div>2. MSU</div><div>3. Maroon, White</div><div>
</div><div>Not enough opportunity to make the blue hairs in front of me hold their ears.</div>

Not our state as in the state of Mississippi. STATE is the nickname of our school, like Ole Miss, Bama, etc. The chant is a pun. Of course it would take on dual meanings while playing other MS schools.

why would I chant "THIS IS......OUR STATE" at an Alabama or LSU game in Starkville. Who gives a crap - we are playing teams from out ofstate? Plus if we start this...you can never loose another Egg Bowl or it will be egg on the face.

Agreed - MAROON and WHITE is tired but this is not the answer.

It's our chant. It's probably something we'd only do at home games anyway. Most chants in writing sound terrible anyway, but what gives them a large impact is when the whole crowd gets behind it. "This is our state" all of a sudden sounds like it has more of a meaning when over 50,000 fans are saying it in one accord.

it's a pun on State being in our name, but if you wanna look at it that way, think of it like you're welcoming them to our state and hope they enjoy the *** whooping (hopefully speaking of course).<div>
</div><div>Hell, Mullen already put pressure on us not to lose to Ole Miss already when he stated we'd never lose to them again. The chant will just be icing on the cake.</div>

I am right on board with you!

Who gives a **** when about this is our state when you are playing someone else..... only time it is valid is every other year on Thanksgiving weekend.

Does remind me the beat down we took from UT with Fat Phil at the helm,,,, the Vols had just beat the snot our of TSUN a couple of weeks earlier and they were singing something to the effect of "we don't give a damn 'bout the whole state of mississippi, whole state of mississippi, whole state of mississippi"

Why start something stupid to be turned on you later?

Also remember arguing (we were both drunk mind you) when Visor boy came to town and took his final Starkville beat down and during pre game some drunk student kept yelling "go to hell Ole Miss.!" Who gives a @%%+ when we are playing Florida today.... I don't see Ole Miss on the field today.

Or the guy who wears a Steelers jersey to a Cowboys and Eagles game.... do you see the Steelers playing today?

I think it still sends a message at home games no matter who we're playing. Think about it, they are coming in to our State thinking and expecting to win. This chant to me basically says " the hell you are". And if your logic is that it could be turned against us then by that logic so coyld "We're gonna beat the hell out of you"! I think this chant would be better served when we are up on a team late in the game though.

at the end of games when we win. Kinda like the S-E-C! chant that SEC schools do when we defeat out-of-conference opponents.

When somebody comes to our house and we lay the smackdown ... let them know where they are at. THIS IS ... OUR STATE!

I think doing it before or during the game could backfire.

on the night of Tents4Tix. It worked fairly well. It would be much more impressive with 55,000 + people.<div>

when we are losing bad, either... so I really don't think that's a valid case for this not happening.

Since we're talking about cheers, what are y'alls thoughts on a first down cheer for us? Lots of schools say something when they get a first down as prompted by the announcer, what if we did something like that?

It doesn't take as long to get out and it sounds more appropriate for first downs instead of saying This Is Our State to me.

has the least amount of rhythm in the country. I've never heard a rhythmic applause be so off beat in my life.

Fans shouldnt cheer because it could be turned on you later? Good idea. Lets just sit on our hands anytime you would normally cheer. That way it cant be rubbed in our face should we lose. Oh look, State got a first down but be quiet because we may end up punting and you dont want to get that first down cheer rubbed in your face. Why dont you give your tickets to somebody who knows how you support your team on a Saturday night. Stay home and watch from your living room. You can even mute the TV.

I favor "Go State" over "Hail State". Its easier to yell 'Go' than 'Hail' and it fits in better with the 'go state' cheer. 'Hail' is not a commonly used word today and would probably come across as 'hell state'. Not that this hasn't been yelled a few times over the years....just not as a cheer.

On the true topic at hand, my vote would be negative on the 'this is..our state' cheer except when the rebs are in town.

we don't have a first down "chant" like pretty muchevery other school. And the "it won't mean anything to anyone other than OM" argumentdoesn't hold water to me. .. the geographic connotations aren't what is important .. it's the essence of the phrase that connects it to MSU, and only MSU, is what it's about. It'sthe meaning of it, to MSU fans, is what matters. What does "roll tide" mean, anyways? does it make sense? nope but you know that it's "the phrase used by alabama fans" and that is all that matters.

"Our State" won't make sense to UGA or UT fans, but if it is adopted by the MSU fanbase it will become "the phrase that is used by MSU fans"

Someone posted yesterday that "Our State" has nothing to do with Ole Miss, so you should be fine.
