This is probably not what Payne signed up for...

Hard to imagine Payne lasting too long here.

What we're witnessing is just indescribable. Not going to try to describe it.

I am sure he envisioned picking up some guns in the portal and steering this another direction.

No way he expected this to go this badly. No way he expected the cold shoulder from the high end recruits.

This is just a disaster. And I can't imagine him wanting to keep this job at this rate.

Thoughts?

Really not sure. We are an embarrassment. If things keep going this way, Payne really should resign. At some point Heird is going to have to come out and talk about the plan going forward in regards to NIL, ticket sales, expectations.

Really not sure.
Me neither!

If anything, it's somewhat fascinating. The entire what's next part of this.

Now I'm not saying things won't change. I don't predict futures, that's why I am asking the room here.

But I am into all that psychoanalysis end, and I just know Kenny is not getting what he expected, no matter what he says in pressers.

It's just real tough to ask anybody involved or that's a fan to ride this out too long.

KP gave us the "be patient, good things will come" coach speak not soon after his hire. I think we all knew this season would not be a very successful one. What we did not anticipate is a complete humiliating disaster. It's total ineptitude out there, top to bottom.

Honestly, I think he’s an honorable guy and he could resign if things keep going this way.
This where I think I am at on it.

But I don't listen to pressers so I don't know what he's saying.

Those 1 point losses were cringe, but what is happening in Maui is more in your face and real hard to get away from.

So it will be interesting to see how he handles media.

Historically bad in just about any measurable you want to apply. KP has his backers. They were vocal to get him hired, they’ve been vocal in his defense and they will undoubtedly be vocal in any attempt to oust him. I do not think he’ll resign unless he’s ready to give up coaching completely. It would be career suicide to do so. All that to say, we’re pretty much screwed.

No way Payne signed up for this. I’m not sure this could have started any worse.

The team is not engaged and does not appear to believe in KP or the staff and whatever they are trying to accomplish. I think that may be some of what we are seeing here.

I find myself looking at Coach Manning and Smith and they look just as lost. It’s scary.

I also find myself glancing at the schedule and seriously wondering - where do the Cards get their first win? Has KP lost this team? If so, they are in trouble.

I hated this hire right from the beginning and I knew we were forced into hiring him now we're getting what we deserve and I'm a huge fan going back to the 80s staying up late for delayed games watching every game. this year have not watched one of their games not going to go to any of the games until there's some improvement or change

I think Chris Mack deserves some blame too. He was soft and he quit mid stream. Didn’t do the program any favors.

He at least won games last season. As ineffective and uncommitted to his systems as he appeared to be at the end - he at least had systems.

Now we know why James Dolan recommended KP so highly - he was trying to dump him.

Any fan who boos their coach is not a real fan. Those are fair weather fans, and every team has their fair share of them.
Any fan who plunks down top dollar to watch players and coaches go through the motions as they get boat raced game after game, has every right to boo the coach if they’d like. Being a sunshine pumper isn’t the definition of being a fan - it’s the suspension of critical thinking.

Coaches get all the money and all the blame which is fair. What we can’t forget these are basically the same players that made Mack quit. The players are the common denominator.

After last year how do the players come out with zero hustle or real effort? That is 100% on the players. They quit that is 100% on the players.

He is not going anywhere this year but this year is going to speed up the process. All these so kind connections have next year to get him players. Without a clearly better roster and a terrific 2024 class it would be hard for him to survive year 2.

If he can’t coach the players to win ballgames why would a recruit come to a sinking ship? I would be shocked if he will be able to get any recruits after this year.

I’ve been looking at Manning and Smith as well. This has to be extremely painful for them.

Been a fan since 1959, and this is top to bottom the worse I gave ever seen. Did they even practice before the season? If so, what did they do? Not buying the wait and see. This is NOT Louisville basketball. That quality of coaching staff should not allow that kind of play period.
Wonder if this is a Nike or Calipari funded program, because it stinks. Will not attend anything by anybody of this kind of trash.

Public figures, especially high profile and well paid ones are free game. They open themselves to criticism. It’s part of the gig. Additionally, I will see fit how I utilize my first amendment right.

Chris Mack got **** on by Neeli in the whole blackmail deal by Gaudio. And the local media blitzing him over "Kenny Payne won those games" video during covid..plus he had to operate under the black cloud of the NCAA the whole time he was here. He did walk away but he was pushed.

He actually did do us a huge favor by walking away from a lot of money we don't have.

I think you all were so pressured from local leaders , media, and other coaches around town that Heird may just sit back and let this disaster unfold to the point he has no option but to fire him in order to not recieve any back lash.....or KP resigns

Our fanbase didn’t sign up for this either. Last spring and early summer everyone thought that he was filling out the roster without showing his hand to other schools, he apparently wasn’t doing ****! This roster mess could’ve been avoided.

Did you watch your football team get booed against Vanderbilt? Those fans were at the game and are more of a fan than a fan sitting in a recliner at home.

I just laugh at all those people who supported Bendapudi and KP. They didn’t support them because of their qualifications they supported them for other reasons and now we are paying the price. Right now we are looking to hire a new President so things could still get worse. I hope they make their decisions based on qualifications and nothing else.

Fan reaction will be pretty obvious. Attendance will drop, a few will argue and cry on social media.

What will be interesting is how the people in charge will react to the historically bad season.

What are the people in charge gonna say or do about it?

I think our only hope is him realizing he can't do the job and he just steps down. If he doesn't walk away we are doomed to 3 or 4 more years of this because I think he is oblivious that he absolutely sucks !!

U of L fans do not realize the coaching staff was limited in the transfer portal since the athletic department thought the minimum punishment from the NCAA would be the loss of two or three scholarship. it is obvious this team is lacking in talent and any new coaching staff would be struggling early in they year. I hope Kenny Payne is at least afforded the same opportunity as Chris Mack. Now what is really frustrating is to have a talented team coached so ineptly by an overrated and outdated coach with a lifetime contract!!!!!!

Were not exactly the same. No one expected a decision on penalties before last season started.
There was no timetable and do you honestly think other coaches weren't in those guys ears saying we were going to be on probation..? Cmon man. Nothing but excuses !!

I believe the writing was on the wall losing to chumps. But now it's crystal clear where this is. The dog has not fight in it, so need to get worked up for these guys really.

Just going to tune in when I can, and try to root 'em on like they are my sons.

But I do wonder what the future holds when the clock strikes midnight.

This is one bizarre situation right now.
