No, this is what happens when somebody gives your athletic program about $200 million and you no longer give a **** about sales in the short run and you can afford to build huge numbers of season ticket sales over several seasons -- particuarly if you start winning a lot.

I'm not saying they are right to do it. But, they can afford to do pretty well anything they damn well please in college sports.

It wasn't an actual "cash gift", but it was given in the form of stocks or bonds or money market or something like that. That's why they lost most of it. So the hundreds of millions of dollars gift is now worth a fraction of that.

This has been going on for quite a few years at OSU... it's the idiocy of AD Mike Holder who began doing this to shut out Oklahoma fans who were getting closer to outnumbering OSU fans at Bedlam... They then started putting the OU game in 3 or 4-game ticket packages--they still kept coming... then they just flat out made people buy all season tickets... they're leaning WAY to much on Pickens' donation to save them, when they could be making more money by selling that stadium out every week... It's not Pickens, it's Mike Holder (whose previous experience was as the men's golf coach before he was hired as AD after Terry Don Phillips left for Clemson)...
