This is the first time I have seen us play this year.

...this is also my first time to see them play this year.

I thought the problem last year was that Jamont Gordon was allowed to play out-of-control playground ball (which hurt the team badly).

After watching 10 minutes of tonight's game, I can see now that playing out-of-control playground ball is actually part of Stansbury's offensive scheme.

I realize that for a long time he has had a free pass. We had bigger problems in baseball and football.

I still can't believe that Stans wasted Gordon and Rhodes. Such a waste. They only won one NCAA tourney game in their years here. Damn.

Also, CAN WE STOP FOCUSING OUR OFFENSE OFF OF THE POST GAME! Newsflash! We suck on the offensive end in the paint. Run something to get our bagillion guards open looks.

just sitting on the bench with thumbs up their asses, clueless as usual.

We are stuck with this coaching staff until GB says "enough".

and based on what I've seen so far, I'm glad that I haven't wasted my time driving to Starkville. Good god, they look horrible and it's not exactly like they're playing UNC out there.

should watch closely this year. An NCAA tourney bid is out of the question. Hopefully, we can squeak into the NIT.

If we don't make the NCAA tourney NEXT year...something may need to be done.

and we went to a 4-guard set?

Our best players in order are Varnado, Johnson, Bailey and Osby.

All our guards are below average ball-handlers and passers - the only one that can actually finish any successful drive is Ravern. None of them can use their left hand and their shot selection is all off the chart on the bad end. They're can't be a worse team at executing transition game stuff - we had several 2 on 1's or 3 on 2's and usually came away with a turnover or an awful shot. I'm really disappointed in how Bost looks as I had high hopes for him, but I don't see anything at all special about him.

Add to it that none of them are very good defensively and well, we've got issues.

Look at how well Cincy moves the ball on offense and generally ends up with a good open, shot - especially compared to us. I don't think their athletes are that much better - I think they are just better coached.

Some of that falls on the coaching staff, some on the players to work on stuff during their own time and off-season. Varnado's about the only one that is showing noticeable improvement in any area of his game. It's clear he's worked on some post moves since last season.

We look decent against most of our crappy competition, and horrible against the decent teams. We'll improve as the year goes on, but it sure is frustrating right now.

No to say you want to fire a coach that has been in postseason play and won division titles in the past few years is idiotic. Now if he doesnt make it this year and next you might have a point. Right now you just sound like an overreacting dumb ***

A free pass? what is his winning percentage? How many post season appearances does he have? How many division titles? You idiots are now acting like bad year and byrne should go firing people.

I agree. I don't understand the 4 guard offense for all the reasons you mention.

In addition, we have absolutely no post presence with 4 guards and Varnado. Varnado is good but leaves his feet nearly every series and that leaves a guard to rebound. Most teams, especially a big team like Cincy, will control the paint on both ends with this lineup.

too much. From mstateathletics.com:

"With a 10-year coaching record of 208-115 (.644) at the Bulldog helm, Stansbury has guided eight State squads (5 NCAA & 3 NIT) to postseason tournament appearances and seven clubs to 20-plus wins campaigns. Prior to Stansbury taking over MState's head coaching duties in 1998, the Bulldogs had totalled seven postseason tournament berths and eclipsed the 20-win mark just seven times in the school's 86 previous years of basketball competition."

"Most recently, Stansbury piloted last year's 23-11 State squad to its fourth SEC Western Division crown in the last six years"</p>

There are five other SEC west teams who would love to be able to say that. Stans is a good coach. Think before you post.</p>

And it has a lot to do with coaching. I wonder what kind of record another coach would have with the same players.

that's pretty much about it. During his tenure, we have consistently had better talent than other teams in the SEC West. That's why we have won and he should credit for his outstanding recruiting. He should also get credit for his floor coaching...questionable at best.

Jesus, some of you people are ridiculous. I never said we should fire him but at some point we may have to. I think he should have two years to get us to the NCAA tourney. If he doesn't, goodbye.

In 10 years, we have never made it to the Sweet 16. Does that not bother you? I guarantee that it will be 11 years after this year. I would give up SEC West titles for a deep run in the tourney. Wouldn't you?

Watching Stans has gotten a little stale. His teams consistently make the same errors over and over. They are also good at the same thing over and over. His coaching is consistently mediocre and loses us games more often than not. If you see our baseball and football teams start to pick up, don't be surprise if a little pressure is applied to Stans.

I'm just wondering. I'm pissed that he couldn't get SH to Starkville.

I guess Bruce Pearl is a better recruiter? "Hey kid, how would you like to play on a court named after our women's coach?"

have down years. Stans has proven himself capable of taking us to championships and will do it again.

Andy Kennedy would be seen as a good floor coach for Mississippi, but they lost two guards this year as well and will likely be massacred by Louisville pretty soon. Sometimes you have a down year, but you shouldn't be so short sighted as to forget the success we had a very short time ago and will have again.

If we continue to play like this into next year and have another very subpar next year, then Stan's job security will be looked at as it should, but don't be so quick to jump the gun in the middle of one down year while we're still in the nonconference.

Well, people like you dogged Jamont all last year for being reckless, out of control, a ball hog or whatever. The fact was that when he took it to the rack he SCORED with a dunk or layup. From what I saw tonight, Turner and Stewart drive the ball to the basket and throw the ball at the rim HOPING it will go in. That's pathetic. We'll miss Jamont because there is no skill at the guard position, scoring wise. We had 2 fast break opportunities before Cincy blew it open that didn't even result in a shot attempt because our guards couldn't pass the ball to each other. It's a comedy of errors out there. If we had any talent out there to complement Jarvis, we could be pretty decent but with Randy and Turner jacking up bricks all year, it's going to be a long one.
