We were close in '06 with 3 close losses, in 07 we win 8 games, and then in 08 we lost another 3 close games. As Phil Steele said, we could have easily gone 7-5 last year. Recruiting, according to every service in the nation, had improved every year Croom had been on campus, and 09 was going to be the best (and it was). Croom was recruiting for a West Coast Offense. Instead, we change coaches, to "get the offense going" (Byrne's words), and we bring in a spread option guy. He has completely different systems and brings in a new D coordinator. Our D gets pushed around more tonight than we have in the past 3 years of Croom. On offense, we are now running a new system that we haven't recruiting for. Tyler Russell has a great arm but obviously Mullen needs a QB that can run too. Russell is not going to be a great running threat, ever. Mullen has to recruit to his system. By the way, does anybody on this board think that Mullen's offense is "exciting"? Is running option plays based upon offensive principles from the 1970s really exciting? Haven't we officially killed the incorrect notion that many had that Mullen was going to throw the ball around the field? That is not Mullen's offense. It's a spread OPTION offense. To me, it's boring, but I'm sure many disagree. I'm sorry, but tonight was a huge step back. In the past two years, we had established against a better coached Auburn team that we were evenly matched with them. We beat them two years ago by 4 and we lost last year by 1. Given that our talent is much better now than 2 years ago or last year, how do we lose this year by 25? Thanks Greg Byrne.
