For Matt Rhule

he’s a good guy and a hard worker, but I don’t think he can cope with the pressure of a program this big. He’s unwilling to act like a CEO and make the necessary changes. The need to be liked is his number one weakness.

He has a ceiling of seven wins and puts us firmly in the half of the Big Ten conference that makes the top half possible.

It’s imposter theory, and most people have it to some degree.

Rhule replaced his OC in the middle of the season just last year. After we beat Iowa on Friday, that "ceiling" of seven wins will be broken.

-Incessant complaining (accompanied by exaggerated arm gestures)
-Wide-eyed terror (or is it confusion?)
-the occasional hangdog face
-Nervous pacing coupled with persistent lip licking

…examples of Rhule’s somewhat odd non-confidence producing sideline behavior

So what's the plan then? Start over with anotther retread? Cross our fingers and hope we win the lottery with a 1 in a million chance to hire a coach from the lower ranks like Indiana did?

The team is young... calm down already. PSU was a national contender a couple of months ago who mentally broke after Oregon. It's not like all their talent disappeared with Franklin. Do we have issues.... yes. They are fixable.

I don’t think this is true necessarily. What we need is very simple but will take $$. We have to have some really good guys in D-line and O-line and have the coaches to teach them.

We have the skill guys and some athleticism. For whatever reason this does not get addressed enough at DONU.

Knowing what we know about what Iowa does and what we can’t do, what makes you think that?
We haven't beat Iowa at home in 15 years. But a few of those games, we had them down and beat ourselves. We've played better at home and on special teams this year. And I think our defense will rise to the occasion. This staff knew in the bye week that (1) it was going to be tough to win both of the next two, (2) Iowa at home was going to be the easier, and (3) if you beat Iowa most people will forgive losing to Penn State. So I think we'll have a good game plan with a motivated team ready to play well. The question I have going in will be how does this team score more than 20 points?

from the very beginning I always said MR would not be able to handle the pressure here.. in just his second year, he had to make an emergency change at the OC position.. which wasn't well thought out.

in some ways, Dylan Raiola changing his commitment to Nebraska really screwed up the plan that Matt was originally on.. and Shame on Matt for letting 1 recruit de-rail his plan for Nebraska.

No, we are stuck with him for a while. He can have a winning record, barely, with the help of home games against abysmal out of conference opponents. I’m looking for evidence that he can actually coach when the going gets tough, put together a top-tier staff and create a mentally tough team. If you don’t have these characteristics by now, you probably never will.

I'm gonna bet on NU. I think NU was smart enough to take a two game approach to the end of the season. They will be ready. Am I wrong? I hope not!
I really want you to be right. I need to see him go toe to toe with a team that wants battle in the trenches and come out the tougher team with fewer mistakes. Watching us get Charlie Browned by Lucy is fatiguing

What coach is better? That would honestly come knowing you have no shot to win your own conference let alone playoffs. It’s been over a quarter century since we won our own conference lol.

Iowa has beaten Nebraska six straight senior day games in Lincoln. Sometimes getting amped up and emotional for a game just isn’t enough when the men on the other side can simply beat your *** at will.

Accept that Nebraska had a great history and be thankful that the stars all lined up in their favor at that time. We have consistently demonstrated that even though we have more resources than most other schools in the B1G, the university does not have the intellectual capacity to assemble a staff to compete for championships. We have morphed into a bottom tier fan base that gets excited for potential 7 to 8 when seasons now and then.

It’s best to accept reality. Don’t have to like it, but sometimes there’s just not a damn thing you can do about it.

Pretty sad if you've labeled yourself as a bottom tier fan of Nebraska football, I doubt not many share your labeling. Maybe you've morphed, but I doubt the true Husker fans share your sentiments.

First, I would like to see a lot more leadership from the AD.

I think Matt executes the offseason and recruiting well, but he lacks long term vision and discipline himself. I think the AD needs to have a much more measured relationship with the coach to keep him on target with what needs to be done.

What needs to be done?
You need a new Offensive Line coach for starters.

Matt seems unable to really hire the right type of people to run the organization at the highest level.

When I tune in to what Urban Meyer has to say, he was very demanding of the coaches that worked for him. I don't see that in Matt at all. He's loyal to a fault and let's it all slide.

As long as they're selling that booze and putting a**es in those seats, he's good. I mean, he had no problem putting himself on the plane with Matt to go watch the Crawford fight, so he's along for the ride, too.

Too big? For what? We're a middling B1G program. Have been for decades. Mediocrity is our norm. Unless we catch lightning in a bottle somehow with the next coming of...

Better start recruiting better, 2026 class is not good at all, 2027 looks promising, for now, but that could take a big drop off at any time. Last night showed how getting better O & D linemen is a must going forward, we'll see what happens.

Sadly, I don't see a win against Iowa because again, the lines are a mismatch in the Hawkeye's favor.

You act like Nebraska lives in an Ivory Tower with all the other great teams. We lack a lot of advantages other teams have. We don't have the weather or climate that is attractive to 18 year olds. There is a reason that nearly everyone that has won the title or a vast majority of the teams historically in the top 25 are from the south. Lincoln is thousands of miles away from talent, especially talent that plays year round. It's not easy to get recruits to see Lincoln when we do have an opportunity to make the stadium look amazing because our airport situation is awful. When Saban can drive 2 hours to see top recruits, our guys have to take nearly the entire day off to do it.

So yeah.... I'll take mediocrity with the chance to get into the playoffs doing it a different/slower way then what everyone else is doing. It can be argued we were the first to do the coaching carousel with decent coaches before everyone else started doing it and how has it worked for us so far? Go back to your 90's fantasy world, find an SEC team to root for, or accept the reality of who we are. Hell, Michigan and Oregon just threatened to leave the B1G, so how secure does that make you feel being a Nebraska fan two decades from now in a vastly accelerated landscape change that could have us locked out playing with the big boys? Yeah, I'll take my chances with our current trajectory then the chaotic one you want.

I agree with this. He gave everything away cause he thought DR was going to be Peyton Manning. He talked about the offensive line and he had to know our DL was too small but spent a bunch of money on Wrs. For DR. Knew we needed a backup RB but spent too much on wr.

****, looks like everyone should schedule us on senior day.

The entire coaching staff and the team laid down like dogs in Happy Valley.

I had the sense that Rhule was going to call a couple timeouts there in the third quarter, go over to his Alma Mater's sideline, and ask them if they were getting close to any other program records in order to assess how much assistance we could be in helping them set them, and then accommodate as necessary.

"Anyone getting close to a sack record? Punt return yardage? Anything at all we can help you guys with?"

Sandusky was his position coach and shared many a meal at the Rhule family dinner table, after all

Rhule won’t beat Iowa.
Probably not this year with a true freshman QB starting his third game and the 3rd string RT having to start. Probably wouldn’t if we still had a healthy Gottula. Probably would have had a puncher’s chance with Dylan.

Nebraska is going no where with this coach and staff. Ceiling is 8 wins and irrelevance
This is the Iowa Staff. Only iowa fans have embraced being lame while we demand more.

Trev hired Rhule, not so much to win a ton, but to try and keep things "quiet", Rhule is a good guy, he is a good talker, he says the right things and can win JUST enough to keep things kinda okay, but not really.

Trev clearly got advice from other people about possible hires and you know things he heard turned him off from certain people, I bet he hear this about...

Cigs: Arrogant and a total ******* killer with no big time experience.

Year to year isn’t transitive. Iowa has a better QB this year who can run and is willing to break tackles. We have a shot to win but I wouldn’t wager any money on it.

Like all ADs not named Tom. Tom cared bigly about Ws but he also knew money matters. Trev? Was he any different than Troy?
