"Earlier this month, the Ole Miss student government passed a resolution suggesting the chant be replaced by the phrase, "To hell with LSU.""

It's so comical that they continue to pretend that LSU even notices them. Ask most any LSU fan and it's some combination of Arkansas, Auburn, Bama, or Florida all mentioned ahead of UM. But, hey, whatever floats their boat. It's just kind of embarrassing to think that they consider it a rivalry when LSU doesn't even notice them and hasn't since the early 70s. I just don't get it.

/actually have a friend who is a huge LSU corndog and he circles OM every year as a rival type game
//plus Bruiser or one of his pals is going to tell you that the Magnolia Bowl was an idea by LSU not OM and I think that is accurate

And this one actually makes sense. You'll hear our fans say "Go To Hell LSU" 10 times for every 1 time you hear them say "Go To Hell MSU" simply because you don't hear the latter unless it's the Egg Bowl, and you hear the former every week no matter who we are playing. We had a guy that used to say "Go To Hell LSU" between the alma mater and national anthem at every game, before they asked him stop. And people still try to replicate it today.

Saying "Go To Hell LSU" is a tradition of sorts, so it would make sense to say "To Hell with LSU". Whether you think they recognize us or not is irrelevant. The "Go To Hell LSU" is a tradition. It doesn't mean we consider LSU to be a bigger rival than MSU. It's just what we say whether we're playing Arkansas State or Alabama or LSU. You likely haven't been to many Ole Miss games that didn't involve MSU, so you probably haven't been around to hear it very often, but it's said every week.

And yes, it was the LSU student government that proposed the Magnolia Bowl trophy even though that's not relevant to the topic.

he said that it is funny that OM fans think LSU fans even notice them. the Magnolia Bowl trophy should be your trump card in every one of these arguments.

Not the first time we have had this conversation on this board.

By the way, what do you guys think about us playing Southern Miss?

i guess if you look back across the whole program history, LSU/UM could be considered a rivalry. back in the 60s & 70s it was a great rivalry. one program has just had a ton more success since then and to someone like me who has only seen the series in the 80s, 90s, and 00s, it doesn't make much sense. but i guess it's still there. looking across the last 30 years alone, you don't get a sense of a rivalry though.

i just always feel like UM is trying a little too hard to make it into something it's really not.

there was a rule that you couldn't discuss things more than once. Nobody made you read the thread or post a reply.

good thing being a smart *** is allowed more than once or dubmasses like you would actually have to do their job during the day.

I've gotta go with a thanks LT on that one.

I would like to see MSU and Alabama recognized as a rivalry, as well as MSU/LSU. Sorry for the Defender Stargate hijack.

I don't understand why MSU fans really give a **** ... OM is our football rival to us because we have historically sucked so bad that nobody else gives a crap. Rebel fans play it up that LSU is "the rival" because they want to pretend we are the equivalent of Vandy/UT with regards to dominance.. and for periods of time that is true and maybe even we were worse. I would hate LSU worse than MSU right now if I was a Rebel fan. When we become relevant again then you'll hear more about UM/MSU like you did in the '90s. I don't know a single OM fan that played the "LSU is our rival" card in the '90s and I lived in Oxford some in that period.

1- There definitely was a time (and to an extent still is) that the Alabama Basketball game was the "rivalry" game on the schedule for a lot of MSU basketball fans. And honestly, Arkansas and other games were before Ole Miss.

2- for DECADES our rival in baseball was LSU and Ole Miss was nothing more than the equivalent of a directional school on the schedule. Why is Ole Miss now a baseball rival?? because they started winning...

That thing looks like it was purchased at a trophy shop better suited for making T-ball awards. And the sculpture on it looks like a hoo-ha.

on all points. Who wants to align themselves with a ****** program? If we start winning consistently, we won't have to continue to indulge in this futile, seemingly tireless argument.
