Huge surprise I know. Saturday, a friend told me that a friend of his and his fiance were staying at the same hotel as Sharapova in Memphis. They saw her twice and both times they just said, "Hey. Good luck in your match tonight." Both times she just snarled at them and didn't say a word. Then Sunday, MrMeoff told me that he took his two girls (ages about 10 and 8) to the tournament. Said all of the players (especially Melanie Oudin) were very nice to them when they asked for autographs, except for (you guessed it) Sharapova. She didn't even say a word to them or any of the other kids. In Sharapova's partial defense, it'squite possible that in the last incidentshetook one look at Meoff standing there and thought, "I've got to get as far the hell away from this freak as I can."

I'd say she's a major *****. Like I said, no surprise. I know she was probably pissed that she had to play in Memphis (on the women's tour this is as close to the minor leagues as you can get without actually being in the minor leagues, while on the men's tour it'sa pretty solid event) instead of in Dubai with the top players, but there's still no excuse for treating people like that.

A rich famous athlete who is obsessed over by millions of people across the globe snubbed someone for an autograph? You're shitting me?? Next you are going to tell me that Coach34 hates Rick Stansbury!

Oudin was awesome to everyone I saw her interact with which was quite often. The times I saw her out and about the site, she rarely had 3 minutes without someone asking for something but she always smiled and was engaging, especially to the kids that came up to her.

She's also incredibly small compared to the other women. Only got to see her play doubles but she's got to find a way to get a little more action on the serve.

I think it'll get better as she gets more experience, but right now I've got a better serve than she does and I'm just an average (if that) 3.5 player.

Being one of the most popular professional athletes in the world with strangers constantly making idle talk, asking for autographs, etc....

yeah, after watching her serve, i think she'd have a hard time beating me (4.5), but that's women's tennis for you. rebel bruiser is a solid 5.0 and i think he'd probably beat her in straight sets.

Try getting an autograph from Chopper Jones. He is a class A *******.

I wouldn't give your non-spelling *** an autograph either.

Da' hell is "Chopper Jones"?

Here's a picture of them playing mixed doubles at the Hopman Cup earlier this year.

We were there for three sessions. My daughters got many autographs, as did dozens of other kids that were there after those matches... Most of the players were very nice, patient, and gladly took time out to sign. Even some of the players who had just lost took a quick second to sign a few shirts, balls, posters, whatever, which I didn't expect. Sharapova didn't even try. Even though she had just won, she stared at the ground and walked right past all the kids standing there. I sort of expected that, and brushed it off to the girls as her being focused. But here's where I have a problem --

The next morning, we were walking into Blue Plate Cafe for breakfast, and a male player was coming out and about to get into a courtesy car. One of my daughters waved to him as we walked by, and he was in the middle of a conversation with them: 'hi there. are you a tennis player?' etc., just being friendly, when Maria walks out of the restaurant with a hat on and hood pulled down and says "Let's go" and jumps in the car. They basically sprayed gravel on us getting her wide *** out of there. My 8 year old daughter yelled "RUDE!" and we went in and ate a Belgian waffle. It didn't ruin our day, but she lost a couple of young fans.

And, yes, her *** has gotten wide.

that the kids weren't borrowed. Meoff's not above using his own kids for bait.

DUDE...get over it!! She's just not into guys stalking her after matches, tracking her down at restaurants or "making friends" with her inner circle in an effort to meet her. It's sad your children have to be dragged into your obsession.

You areseverly underestimating Oudin if you think that an everyday 4.5 player can beat her.
Second of all, is Bruiser really a 5.0 or is that just falsely adding to his legend? (by the way,Idon't know many MS 5.0's that could beat her either)

I have seen tennis club members, who play at 4.5 or 5.0, beat professional women's tennis players. Especially in singles, the difference in athleticism and pace on the ball can be difficult for the women.

Now, I'm not talking about a top 10 or even a top 20 player. There is a major dropoff in women's tennis after that top group. Oudin is currently #42.

Women's tennis is a little deeper than it's been, so the dropoff isn't what it used to be when Graf would win 0 and 0 until the quarters.
Oudin is #42, but beat Jankovic, Petrova, Sharapova, and Dementieva in Slams last year, and they're all former top 5 players.

I'd like to hear the names of some of these 4.5 players that could beat a top 100 pro woman, b/c I highly doubt it. As far as groundstrokes go, a good many of the women hit with as much pace as the top men.

but they're from Texas. You probably wouldn't know them. Nice try on the call-out, though.

That's just not true. You should know that.

while his girls were talking to the male player, Sharapova walked out and made eye contact with him. He then, while kids were still talking, gave Sharapova the universal sign for eating ***** (fingers spread over the mouth with tongue flicking between them; for you **** on the board), and she winced and while trying to protect her muffin jumped in the car and sprayed the Meoff clan with gravel. Thank you, case solved!

I agree.

No comparison on mens and womens tennis. Not chauvenist, just the facts. I housed some mens players for the Memphis tourney years ago and they said there was no comparison in the games. These guys were rated about 125 in the world and said that they could beat any of the top women 6-0. They said they practiced with some top women and knew this for a fact. They said the speed and power of the mens game was dramatically more than the women's game despite the appearance otherwise.
