The ref made a terrible call, but that doesn't mean that he should be attacked by a player. The ref needs to hang up the whistle. He was looking for trouble.

He was probably in a state of disbelief. Regardless, that kid acted disgracefully. I wouldn't be surprised if the school considered expulsion for something like that.

I played for Brookhaven Academy back in 2002 when we played Bowling Green Academy out of LA. Ref threw a guy out of the game and his dad and brother came out of the stands and attacked him. The one ref held his own and actually ended up slamming the dad to the ground but the other ref he wasn't even a part of it got pushed on the ground and kicked in the head multiple times. Everyone started fighting in their stands. It was odd.

No one from our school got involved somehow. They cancelled the game and gave us a police escort all the way back. My dad happened to film the game, so we've watched it multiple times.

Crazy stuff.

It looked like to me the ref called the foul, and after he blew the whistle he took another shot at the opposing player. Thats what probably got him ejected. No matter, he should not have ever touched the ref! I hope he never sees the court in any organized sport again.

he did what he was supposed to do-a flagrant foul is automatic ejection. The second T was for the intentional push after the whistle. After the ref was initially pushed, security should have been on the player immediately.
Guys, the referee is not at fault for this.

Bowling Green got hit with major penalties if I recall correctly... Nothing but road games for the rest of the basketball season and baseball season too? That sound right?

Edited to add:

Ah no games at all for the rest of that season and nothing but road games in 02-03.

• Louisiana (Basketball) – In the wake of attacks on two high school basketball officials, the Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) suspended all athletics at Bowling Green (La.) High School for the remainder of the year. Additionally, the school will play no home basketball games in the 2002-03 season, will pay a $1,500 fine and will remain on probation through the 2003-04 school year. The MPSA also imposed lifetime bans on three men arrested after the brawl. The incident occurred during Bowling Green’s Jan. 25 game against Brookhaven Academy. According to witnesses, a fight started when one official called a technical foul on a Bowling Green player. A man approached the officials while they were reporting the foul and threw a punch at one of the officials. As the official defended himself, at least two other men joined the attack. One of the officials was knocked unconscious. (January 2002)
