This may have already been noted, but if State had beaten LSU...

MSU finishes 2nd in the SEC West by winning the tiebreaker over LSU and Ole Miss and is tied with Georgia and Tennessee for 3rd in the entire SEC. Not sure what the tiebreaker would be for those three teams since they didn't play each other.

in the grand scheme of things. LSU will more than likely be playing the Capital One Bowl as they would have had they won the game. Our "If", however, cost us not only a bowl game, but quite possibly a fairly decent bowl game by our standards. To your point, if both things had happened, MSU would have finished 3rd in the West rather than 2nd. I'll take it.

Wouldn't the tiebreaker come down to overall record maybe? Since we didn't have a head to head matchup with UT or UGA then I would think their 7-5 record would push them ahead of our 6-6 record. But damn. Hey 5-7 (3-5) for the season is not postseson worthy but it overachieved most predictions. I never thought we would have 3 wins in the SEC and the fact is we should be .500 on the year overall and SEC but oh well.

since there would be 10 teams ahead of us in the SEC with 7 or more wins to our 6. We would have to hope the Hawaii or Humanitarian or some other random bowl sent us an invite, which they probably would.

Would we get to a bowl with six wins? That means the SEC would have 11 bowl eligible teams. I could be mistaken but doesn't the SEC have only eight bowls tie ins and one BCS tie end? If this is true we have two more teams eligible then bowls. The winner of the SEC championship will go to the BCS national championship and this would leave one more bowl available but that would still leave one team out and we would be at the bottom with only six wins.

Living down in Cajun country has a lot to do with it. My lsu friends don't give me any grief over that game as they know lsu should have lost. Throw in the bad call in the Houston game when we were up 3 and you have a shot at a 7-5 record with the toughest schedule in the country. Amazing.

What say ye?

I have no idea what LSU is gaining or losing in the off-season. I have to think LSU will be better in BR next year than they were in Starkville this year.

Our team should be better for sure. I say we compete. Hopefully we go in with enough hunger from this year's game to pull out an upset.

There's a good chance they might be 8-4 again next year. Even numbered years are always their toughest schedules, since they trip to Gainesville, Little Rock, and Auburn. I could easily see them finishing even 7-5 next year. Their is alot of mistrust right now in the LSU fanbase towards the coaching staff. Living down here will be fun if they lose their bowl game.

this year they had to go to Georgia, Bammer, Starkville, and Mississippi...I think having State, Bammer, Georgia, and Mississippi at home will benefit them more, plus the easy win at Vandy

They should have a better team next year...and I look for Miles to replace Crowton,,,but who knows with Miles- but it's got to be nice to be 9-3 headed to a bowl game...Miles has to beat Saban next year- its that simple

We have a good shot to win next year. At the least, it should be a very competitive game. Jefferson will return as lsu's QB, but they lose Scott and Williams. Don't know what they lose on their OL and DL. Lsu is loaded with talent, but I no longer see them as invincible.

Amazing that you're still a believer in that dumbass. They lose to MSU like they're supposed to and either of the Arky/UGA games that they could've easily lost, and they're sitting at 7-5 (which is where they should be)
And why do you continue to spew the crap that they'll be the West favorite next year?
They lose a 1st rd left tackle, WR, 3 RB's, 3 contributors on the DL, a LB or 2, and possibly Chad Jones. And even if they rid themselves of Crowton they'll be breaking in a new offense w/ a below average QB while Bama returns nearly its entire offense

but the only thing that counts is what DID happen. They won those games, even though they could have easily lost them. Hell Bama could've easily lost to Auburn, but they didn't. As long as LSU recruits at a high level (and that probably won't change), they will always be a contender.

This is true when looking back on a season just for the purposes of evaluating that season. However, when using 2009 results to project what will happen in 2010, it is definitely worth considering how a team won and not just if they won. To think otherwise is incredibly simple-minded.

when a few posters on this board kept insisting that just because we won a lot of close games in 2007 didn't mean we would win a lot of games in 2008. Fortunately for the long-term benefit of our football program, we were right.

are at the QB position. They will always have a good OL and 2 or more good RBs. When they get the QB situation solidified, they will be as tough as ever. With good QB play, they won't be in all those close games. I don't really care to look up their recruiting so I guess we'll see. Or maybe the light turns on for Jefferson.

LSU wont be talented? They were 8 deep at WR, not to mention #1 WR recruit in 2008 Reuben Randle played alot. Shepard will have a year under his belt...they have RB's being RS'ed and I can assure you they will sign more...they have 3 OL starters returning, all their QB's, and great skill people. LSU should be fine on offense. Defensively, the signed the top CB prospect of 2008 and he couldnt break the starting line-up...they will have DL guys, always have- always will...

Bammer doesnt return their entire offense- they lose 2 guys on the OL and their TE (just like LSU)...and its an offense that isnt great by any means- but does have some great RB's and WR's...QB will still be an issue in 2010 for Bammer...Defensively- they lose alot...will they still be good on defense? Of course...but losing Cody and some of those guys will hurt

It's simple- LSU has to beat Bammer in 2010

But there was over a minute left in the game when that goal line stand ended. Given LSU's track record this season, that was more than enough time for them to drive down the field for a game winning fieldgoal. Of course, I would rather have gotten the TD and given the defense a chance to win the game, but a win certainly was not guaranteed even if they had gotten the ball across the goal.

like QB and LB, they dropped a little...and their DC's last season were awful- Chavis made that group alot better this season

Crowton is a huge problem- they havent had any kind of identity on offense the last 2 years...they just run a bunch of plays...while they have talent on offense- what can you say they do well? They arent a running team, they make no commitment there. You cant call them a good passing team- but they do make some big plays in the passing game. They need an OC that is going to give them an identity on offense.
