Ole Miss wants Hud, but Hud would rather go to State. However, for him to go to State, Dan Mullen would have to leave, most likely for Penn State. Ole Miss really wants Hud and are willing to wait for the Penn State situation to be settled first. They do not want to be put in a situation where they bring on a coach and lose him the next week to his dream job which happens to be their in-state rival that has trounced them the last three years. That is why there has been no announcement thus far. However, I think if Penn State doesn't get a new coach within a week or so, they will either give Hud an ultimatum or bring on their second candidate, most likely Freeze.<div>
</div><div>Sound reasonable?</div>

He told them to wait until after the Egg Bowl before he would listen to anything<div>

Grasshopper, said Grasshopper has placed a call himself to Huds agent (and anybody else out there on his back pocket short list) to at least put the word on the street that something may be up thereby giving Hud and others the opportunity to stall Bears or whomever if they are interested in our job (that doesn't even exist yet).

possibly going to the Plantation but I do know one thing, I would not want MSU to ever hire a head coach who, with all else being equal, would prefer to be the HC at OM.

and was told that there is no way Mullen would even think about Penn State now. Right.

The last time the HC coaching position opened at Penn State, Dan Mullen wasn't even alive. If that's his dream job, he may be willing to work through a few tough years. Besides, Dan is cocky and I'm 100% sure he thinks he could go in there and be the hero. He can be the guy that brings brings Penn state back. He's gotta be thinking about that.

1) Never follow a legend. How did that work out for Ray Perkins at Alabama? Gary Gibbs at Oklahoma?

2) There are years of legal entanglement and probably NCAA activities at Penn State.

Five, soon to be six straight national champions are from the SEC. This won't be changing any time soon.

clean guy like Dan, whole new staff, moving forward, etc. The big question is does this happen before Mississippi nabs Hud, who I would think would be first on our list.
Penn State needs someone just like Mullen to take the job. Young with energy, success as an offensive cord at big school, success has head coach as well. Mack Brown, or Kiffin or anyone like that is not going to touch that job. But could see important Dan dragging this out and comitting to PSU about the time Hud signs with Mississippi

Like Franklin at Vandy

..there is no "acting quick" here.

Penn State's reputation is now so 17ed up, South Park recently dedicated a whole episode to lampooning Penn State.

Penn State's reputation is now that of a cesspool overflowing with unspeakable filth & corruption.

If Dan Mullen is stupid enough to wade into the sewage pit that is now Penn State, I guess it will explain some of those calls he made this year.

Sure there are tons of "hearing lot's of Mullen to PSU talk" but that's just a bunch of asshats repeating other tweets or reading into fbrumormill who we all know is the next S.I.

Believe it or not, State will have no bearing on OM's HC hiring. If Archie decides Hud is the guy he will offer the job. It's up to Hud at that point. He will be given a resonable amount of time to decide, but enough time to wait out PSU and State is not happening. If hedecides to let the OM job go by and hope the State job comes through that's on him. However, should Hud take the OM job, then what State does is totally irrelevant. Hud would not leave at that point.

Hud's regular season just ended, Fedora and Freeze have games this weekend. That's why there's been no announcement....they don't know yet.

Eggsactly (<- creative Egg Bowl reference). Add to that the guy is a former WR coach at the rival school.

And it mayjust be a coincidence, but Mike Stoops career at Arizona went south after he lost Dykes as his offensive coordinator.

Mullen has been active in pursuing his options. Hard to fault him, and I'm sure he's used surrogates well, but it's painfully obvious that he's actively pursuing other jobs.

Sure hope the ghopper has his *** loafers strapped on tight and is vigorously working the phone keeping those who need to be wearing a shade of crimson with silver or black or, hell, even gold thrown in for ***** and gigglez from wearing blue and gray prematurely.

I know Dan wants to move to a big time programme one day and if the situation at Penn State was better I think he would consider the move however, who knows what is going to happen up there. You got the Police, Department of Education, the NCAA and sooner or later the FBI investigating. I hate to say it but everyone out side of Pennsylvania is piss about what went on. I just think Penn State is going to have a very long next four years and I hope Dan take a hard good look at it before he takes that Job. There will be other jobs in the future. He can wait. He has job security at Miss State until something else comes open. To the rumor about him leaving or Penn State interested I think there is some leg to it. After Ohio State hired Myer, I think Dan became number one on their list.

I know Dan will probably leave someday but please tell me he's not stupid enough to step into that mess. Following a legend into a child rape scandal and an unsure NCAA investigation? That's just crazy.

replacement. The last three years have restored my faith that we have a great university with great fans and adequate reputation and resources to be successful. Coaches changing jobs is part of the landscape these days as no one has any patience and it seems just about everyone is willing to pay big money. Hell, if I knew now what I didn't know then I might have been a coach, it is a lucrative gig.<div>
</div><div>I hope Dan stays but if he leaves I'm not going to lose any sleep over it!</div>

Are you saying that ole Dan has figured out that playing Bama, Lsu, Arky every year just doesn't leave much room for MSU to be better than 8 or 9 wins and has decided he needs to move on? If so, then how do we replace him with anyone that won't come to the same conclusion?</p>

I think things cycle back around to the point where it won't always be 3 guaranteed losses in the west. Every once in a while the stars could align to allow for a special year. ('98).

I think you hang your hat on this, and hope that we're maybe 2-3 years away from a different cycle setting up.

I just don't see him making the move, take the easy money here at MSU. We just finished 6-6 and all you ***-clowns are happy as a lark. We should have won 7 or 8 games this year. When will Mullens beat a Top 20 team?

...Penn State may not even have a football team next year, the NCAA could blast them out of the water or the State of Penn. could shut the whole athletics program down. There is so much of a **** storm there right now that no one in their right mind would take it. Joe Pa made $700K as head coach and lived very modestly, they aren't ready to play the 4 million "rock star" ******** with all the leagal hell that they are about to go through. They could end up with B I L L I O N S of dollars in legal bills from all of this.

The Ole Miss job, you are wrong. He wants to be at state but he wants to coach in the sec period. He is not telling them to wait and see what mullen does, he is excited about the chance to interview and possibly coach the bears.
