And that's the problem - officials will sometimes not call a foul on a play where the ball gets knocked out of bounds and just give it to the right team. Happens all the time where a guys goes over another players back on a rebound and knocks the ball out, but the defensive player probably touched it last. They just give the ball to the defensive team out of bounds rather than fill up the foul sheet on those kinds of plays.
I like the rule in that it can clear up one of those bang/bang calls but the call on Odom shows the downside.
