We should not have been trying to drive for the tie. We should have been in the lead trying to ice the game.
Game is 7-7 in the first half, we have momentum, we are driving the ball, and we send in Russell. He promptly throws a pick, and Auburn scored a TD. We then fumble and Auburn kicks a FG. Bam we are down 17-7. The first half changed on QB mismanagement. Mullen outcoached himself. You don't have to be smarter than everyone else, just go with what is working. The reason to bring in the other QB is when things aren't working.
Then, we drive the ball for a TD on the first possession of the second half using the option running game. We onside it, which was a great move. Then we promptly try to throw the ball every down, first with Relf and afterwards with Russell. Our D makes stop after stop, yet we refuse to go back with what worked. When we finally did, it was really too late.
This game was lost by coaching. Even with our WRs dropping balls left and right, we win if we stick with what worked in the first and second halves. Mullen tries to beat the D to the punch and coaching his team right out of this game. He'll learn some day, hopefully soon.</p>
