"The offense doesn’t have to be electric. It just has to be merely competent.

Teams can’t grind their way through an SEC season, let alone the College Football Playoff, without having some degree of offensive proficiency. However, USC and every other team isn’t required to light up scoreboards like the Big 12 did a decade or so ago."

We ABSOLUTELY can find AND attract a competent OC here. There are plenty of them in situations where they would jump to work here.

I can't believe I've been forced into the role of being the optimistic one here! lol Guess I'm always going against the grain. I'm doom and gloom when others are looking for bright spots. I'm seeing the bright spots when others see nothing but doom and gloom.

I agree that can be done. I just don’t think it will be done.

I'm kind of doubling down on we have to b/c we have to. I'm banking on Shane realizing this is it. There's no more learning curve or grace period. He can't think outside the box on the next OC hire. It HAS to work b/c it HAS to work. And, as the article notes, it doesn't have to work to the tune 45 ppg. What we need is solid, steady competence. Honestly, I have no doubt most of us in this forum could fairly easily identify 3-4 attainable, competent OCs. There's no reason our $8 million head coach shouldn't be able to.
