Are they ignorant about the climate and geography of DFW, or are the just confusing the Cotton with the Fiesta Bowl?

Eh, I’m sure they put zero thought into it. Similar to the way they assumed we didn’t have air conditioning in Mississippi when they filmed a time to kill

It won't be long before they are excused from school. I'm sure a large percentage of them would rather practice than attend classes.

Maybe the colleges should just go ahead and have a major called "Football" (or Basketball or whatever). With zero scholarships, however.

I've always said that the schools should be allowed to offer a major in coaching baseball, football, etc. It's what a lot of them end up doing anyway. Take some child psychology classes and the rest toward coaching your sport. It would be much more beneficial than having them take classes that they don't want and are useless just to stay qualified to play.

This is what has been ALLOWED to happen, but is it really what we WANT? I don't know why so many are willing to give up on amateurism, which is one of the things that made the sport what we all love....which is about kinship to the university. I get the reality, but I just don't know why so many are just willing to accept it.

And going further, I don't know why we haven't come out and said, "hey courts, you want rev-share, sure, but it nows counts against the value of your scholarship aid." That'll tamp down this shlt QUICK. It will also screw over the expensive universities, or force them to knock down tuition.

I mean shlt at some point the universities have to fight back.

What? And upset the cash cow, I don't think so.
"Show me the money" is the credo of the college sports world. It has always been there but now it is completely in the open, god help us all.

Football players have not gone to classes in years unless they wanted to be there. Does anyone not remember us getting busted just a couple years ago for a tutor taking online exams for players while they were on the court playing a game. Or what about those NC players getting credit hours for a nonexistent class. Really? You think football players have been students? Only if they chose to be one, it's just out in the open now that they got $$$$ in their pockets.

We self imposed severe sanctions over a fairly minor issue. UNC, supposedly one of the best public universities in the country, had a 1000x worse scandal, fought it and got zero penalty.

The only way I see the Universities really fighting back is either getting out of the sports business (not gonna happen) or Congress writing an anti trust exemption for collegiate sports.

The latter is being discussed at some high levels. But, I'm not sure Congress will act when it has refused to grant exemptions to other sports leagues. I'm also not sure we want Congress involved....imagine Congress constantly threatening to withdraw the exemption unless the NCAA does this or that.

Would have been nice for amateur sports leagues to be fully exempt from anti trust restrictions, but it's way too late for that now.

Ken Stabler's autobiography has some interesting revelations about his time at Bama in the 60s. He had no intention of going to class, and just pocketed the money he was given for books. A Birmingham Chevy dealer let him have a Corvette he was allegedly going to buy when he turned pro, but he wrecked it so the dealership got insurance money instead.

Granted, this was before the NCAA had rules about making progress towards a degree.

As University employees why do they have to attend class? It is the same logic that lead to professionals playing in the Olympics. The Russians were putting Olympic athletes in the military and their only job was to practice for the Olympics. We will employ our football players and their only job will be to practice for our entertainment on Saturday. Our pride will require that we pay extra money to get the best players so we can beat other SEC teams.

College football was modelled after the Olympics. The players were supposed to come from the student body like the club sports. Money has corrupted both the Olympics and college sports. It will only get worse as the coaches will be requesting families to sign up for automatic monthly bank deductions. Arkansas' coach has already requested this to compete with Ole Miss' collective. Get your checkbooks out!

You didn't read my post right. I'm talking about fighting back against the players being employees.

A couple things come to mind here

1) As much as we mock the student athlete moniker these days, it's easy to forget that <1% are going to go on to make it big in the pros. With that in mind, Cardale's take is pretty short-sighted, selfish one

2) For those wanting to shed the dumb jock stigma that gets attached to guys like this, this tweet just set that movement back by around 50 or so years

Yes, I was just adding argument for where we came from and the direction we are heading. I agree with you. However, I think the wheels are in motion just like what happened with the Olympics. Ultimately the players are going to get their money above or below the table. They have shown that there is no kinship to any university.

We should have started with revenue sharing. NIL has created a bidding war without bounds. It has gotten so bad I even wonder if the universities are paying the NCAA or their conferences for the right to be in playoffs.
