This sounds like a perfect Stansbury head case. Too bad he's Bama bound.

<span class="photo-data"><span class="byline">Robin Conn/The Huntsville Times</span><span class="caption">Levi Randolph's bright blue shoes didn't conform to Bob Jones coach Danny Petty's rules of representing team colors.</span></span><span class="photo-bottom-left"></span><span class="photo-bottom-right"></span></span></div>

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Levi Randolph's final shot Monday night at UAH went long and to the left.</p>

It came, at the time, with Bob Jones up six points against Butler.</p>

There were 10 seconds remaining.</p>

Before the end of the halftime shootaround.</p>

The Patriot standout's warmup jersey, you see, never came off in this rematch of last month's riveting Huntsville Times Classic final. </p>

Not after Bob Jones bounced out to an eight-point lead at the end of
the first quarter and stretched it to 14 midway through the second. Not
after a segment of the 2,200-plus fans crammed into Spragins Hall began
an impromptu "We Want Levi" chant right before the half.</p>

Not when the Rebels' withering pressure and the presence of Trevor
Lacey inevitably led them all the way back and into the lead at the
close of the third. </p>

And, not in the last eight minutes, which brought with it big shots, a
crowd-pleasing slam from Lacey, two ties, two lead changes and,
finally, a 54-51 Butler victory.</p>

Randolph, the Alabama signee and the Patriots' leading scorer, didn't
leave the bench for one reason: The Florida Gator blue shoes with the
orange Nike swoosh didn't leave his feet before tipoff.</p>

Welcome to The Great Shoe Standoff, which this morning, no doubt, has tongues wagging.</p>

In one corner, there's Bob Jones coach Danny Petty: "He knows we wear
our school colors. It's nothing that he didn't already know. He can
wear white, red or navy. But fluorescent blue? Give me a break. That's
why he didn't play."</p>

In the other corner, there's Randolph: "The last game, I wore purple
shoes. I guess these were too loud. It's disappointing because I know I
could have helped my team. I really didn't understand because Justin
Pride had the same color shoes as me."</p>

The difference, of course, is Pride plays for Butler.</p>

And Petty doesn't play that game. </p>

"If you let one player wear any kind of shoe he wants to wear, then
somebody's going to wear fluorescent green, somebody's going to wear
orange," Petty said. "We're going to come out there and we're going to
look like a bunch of clowns.</p>

"It's nothing that he didn't already know. It's not the first issue
with the shoes. I don't know what he's attempting to do. Maybe he's
testing me."</p>

This season has been one major final exam for the veteran coach as
he's tried to coax the defending Class 6A champions -the bulk of whom
are returnees -to play within the confines of his system. </p>

It's been a tough assignment. The Patriots, though loaded with
talent, are a middling 14-8 roughly three weeks before the area
tournament.</p>

Now, they're dealing with issues moms and dads face every weekend.</p>

You're not wearing that out tonight!</p>

Because Randolph did, junior Tyler Davis started in his place against the Rebels. He played admirably, scoring 12 points.</p>

His last shot, the one that could have sent the game into overtime with the final buzzer sounding, went long.</p>

Just like Randolph's. </p>

In the future, though, Bob Jones needs those shots to count.</p>

That's an understatement. Bold, bright statement or not. </p>

similar to that towel waving bagman on the plains and the situation with his son and his hairdo. They'll find some kind of way to play the race card in this situation although it seems impossible to do so. That'd be my guess.

beat my kid's tail just like my dad would have beat mine if I would have tried something like this. I have a hard time believing this is a real story but obviously it happened.
