You can rip into my comments, but if you want to believe that UofL played harder and deserved the W....thats your opinion.

Im just saying in college ball, luck does play a role. Those 3s made in the first half showed up pretty quickly...as the game went on in the 2nd we battled out of a 20 point deficit....That is a positive out of the loss. The team does have potential to overcome adversity.

Agreed....

It's so head scratching to see fans lamenting on a stretch 4, more offense, etc...

We have up 96 pts (and UL missed all kinds of FT late and went cold last 5 minutes).....to argue anything but crap defense is like you must be imagining this as NBA and not college basektball.
Good offense prevents gifting opponents 19 points off turnovers. Yes, we scored enough to win, but miscues on offense directly led to points for the dirty birds.

I do not disagree on our defense.

That was questionable as well.

You could look at the faces of our players though at various times, when fouls were called by the refs, and tell that UK player did not believe in the foul called on them....In this game, theres not just one way to look at the outcome.....there are various factors that made this game a loss for us.

All smiles....no, you can have young talent or experience player or both....and still lose.

Its funny how having oscar tshiebwe made the team chemistry less, even though he knew how to get double doubles most games...

Anthony Davis was a complete post player, he could do double or triple doubles as well, but the difference is that team chemistry was miles ahead with Anthony Davis.

Maybe? But we turned the ball over what, 14 times? If we know what we're doing, Louisville doesn't get nearly as many points off turnovers (19). That's points left off the board and points gifted to Louisville.

We need to install offense so we quit making stupid mistakes.
Offense after we hold opponents in the 60’s. Offense is irrelevant until we get the defense in order. Agreed turnovers killed us. Proper defense would have saved the day.

I hope we don't have another double-digit loss season but it's very likely.

Totally fair. I disagree slightly, but you have a great point.

The best defense, IMO, is not having to play defense. Proper defense could've saved the day, but Louisville shouldn't have had eight more possessions than us.

We had our chance to win in spite of ourselves in this game. We were far from perfect but offensively, we won by virtually every metric. We didn't play great defense but UL deserves some credit there, too. They were just better than we were and we weren't bad!
We have to improve on defense but have got to take better care of the ball and we need a rim protector(JQ) in a big way. I just don't think the game goes the way it did with their guards getting to the basket at will if we have a true rim protector in there to stuff them. And, that allows our d to play the lanes differently. UL spaced us out and sliced us apart last night. We'll get better either way but JQ should be a difference maker in this regard.

It was worse than the stat sheet shows because we couldn't stop their guards out of the paint. Yes, they made timely big shots too but their passing looked great, largely because of our spacing on d.

Gotta give them credit...they were our kryptonite and were well prepared, as well as they executed their plan almost perfectly. Right now, I'd say they win 2 of 3 in a 3 game series but we are still missing a huge part at the rim in JQ that could well flip that around and maybe more should we meet them in March. But it's apparent that they are for real and definitely matched up well with our guys and our currently healthy roster.

I'd have liked to seen Noah at times for his shooting but I'm not sure where he fits in against their quickness in the backcourt nor size inside. So, can't see him getting many minutes in that game unless he's melting the nylon..and we all know he can.

Just for the record although it’s still early this twam is averaging over 20 assists per game, which if the season ended today would put them in second place for overall in assists per game all-time.

UK Team Ranking Assists per Game

In comparison as noted on this thread creating turnovers is a concern. Last year’s Mark Pope team didn’t force a lot of turnover and this year’s team is even worse. Again still early but as of today they would be second lowest of all-time (among teams where stats are available)

Live ball turnovers are one thing...and dead ball turnovers....they still have to score on a set up Defense.

To continue to argue that the defense was not 80% of the problem....I just cna't see from the game I watched (and this was a pattern last year)

Another stat was the whistle by the refs, UofL made it to the free throw line nearly double the amount that UK did.
UofL was much more aggressive with the ball and drew fouls. We can't hang this loss on refs. Our offense needs to take the ball to the rim more and this would also open up our 3 point shooters.

That wasn't as much officiating as it was offensive execution. UL moved better off the ball and did better attacking the basket. Often times the aggressive team will get the calls.

Do you really expect UofL to make more 3's than the mighty UK?

Thats a fact, even though it was just one more 3 made....

UofL got lucky, making that amount of 3s against UK.

That’s free throws, genius.
They did have a big advantage there, but a bunch of them were at the end of the game on intentional fouls. Remember - they missed 7 straight?
A team RARELY wins a game when the opponent makes more free throws than they attempt. This was the case last night.
