This team just never had any chemistry from the start

This team reminded me of our 2005 team only less talented. That team had everybody back from the 04 championship team except for Bowers and it vastly underachieved, barely slipping into the tourney as 9 seed and losing to Duke in the 2nd round. That team had no leader, a cancer in Gary Ervin and absolutely no chemistry. This year's team is the same way. No leader, a potential cancer in Kodi Augustis and no chemistry at all. That has always been Rick's biggest problem. He can not control his problem players and it affects the entire team.

the best players on this team are "mental role players". Further, I could see us being so down by not making the NCAA that we bow out in the first round of the NIT.

I don't think we are. We just don't have the horses. We will next year, after 9 games anyway.

I agree with that. Tennessee was more talented than us at 4 of 5 positions tonight. The myth of Stans the Recruiter is just that.

we just don't have anybody who can reign them in. They only seem less talented because they don't have/know their role.

That's just not true. This year's talent just doesn't stack up with teams like UT.<div>
</div><div>Maze vs. Bost - Maze chose UT over us. He was a much better prospect than Bost.</div><div>Chism vs. Augustus - Chism had an off night tonight, but 8 out of 10, he's better than Kodi.</div><div>JP Prince vs. Ravern - not even close</div><div>Scotty Hopson vs. Barry - again, not even close as far as talent</div><div>Brian Williams vs. Varnardo - we've got the edge, though Williams is much better offensively.</div><div>
</div><div>Then you go to the bench. I'll take Goins over Turner, Tatum over Osby, and Pearl over Benock. There is no way you can argue that our talent stacks up.</div><div>

I was stating we had enough to get the job done, which is make the tourney. Enough to beat Rider, Richmond, Western Ky., Ark., Bama, Aub., etc. and we damn sure have enough talent to not get our asses handed to us like we did today. That result today wasn't as simple as "UT just being more talented."

but we do have the horses to beat WKU, Rider, Bama, Ark, Auburn, and Richmond.

Win just half of those games and maybe today's game wouldn't have been quite so critical.

We absolutely have the horses to beat the teams you listed, and those losses were all disappointing. Teams with mediocre talent such as ours lose those games occasionally.<div>
</div><div>No one is arguing that Stans is some kind of basketball genius as some here like to portray the argument. Stans is a solid practice coach and and average as far as motivating his team. He is really lacking at times with in-game coaching. The bottom line is that he's won more consistently than any coach we've ever had. That's why firing is such a tough issue.</div>

and Barry Stewart has played really well since conf play began. He's more talented than I ever gave him credit for. Augustus, Ravern, Turner, and Osby are all nice complements.

We are not as talented as we have been, but we have a good true point guard and a big man that will be taken in the NBA draft.

We are not mediocre.

And as I said in my post, if we had just won half of those games, today wouldn't have been so important.

Stewart is our school's all-time leading 3 point shooter and a very good defensive player
Bost is an outstanding PG
Jarvis is the SEC Defensive POW
Kodi has had big games against the SEC's best in Kentucky, Vandy, and Tennessee and shows he belongs out there
Ravern is a legitimate scorer

Remember how everyone kept saying our OL in football was awful and Mullen wouldnt be able to run his offense? It's amazing how much better players look once they get some legitimate coaching...the same would hold true in basketball for us

did a miraculous job with our o-line to. We had guys going from 280 to 300 in the span of a few months. I honestly had no idea how bad the conditioning was under Croom until this year. Physically, our guys looked like a totally group of players.

Bost is a tremendous talent? Really? He's a better than average college point guard. I like the guy, but let's not go overboard.<div>
</div><div>Yes, Stewart has played well in conference play for the most part. He's broken records mainly due to the dearth of talent at his positionallowing him to start for four years(again, the myth of Stans the Recruiter)and no three point shot until the 80's.</div><div>
</div><div>We started an above average point guard, a center who should be drafted but who is inept on the offensive end, a four year starter in Barry who should have been a two year starter. Combine them with any combination of Ravern, Kodi, and Phil, none of whom would start on most top 25 teams.</div><div>
</div><div>I think you overestimate our talent.</div>

playing 36 minutes a game for the second year in a row in an offense that for the most part forced him to create off the dribble at all times. Yeah, he's pretty good and he's just a soph.

Varnado inept? Like I've said before, he's not elton brand, but damn, he's certainly an option down there. The large majority of teams we played doubled him when he got the ball.

The bottom line is that this team should be in the tournament. A top 5 seed? no. But definitely in the tournament.
