Buie should not have started the 2nd half and he did. And stayed on for 9 minutes. Berry deserved minutes in the 2nd half, after bringing energy and not being afraid to shoot the ball in the 1st half. He didn't get them. We might have won the game if we did these two things. We will never know. Game was surprisingly very winnable. Rutgers was underwhelming.
Anyway, good to see CC benching Buie in the 1st and finally realizing Young and Nance can play together and give us a lot more than Nance/Beran. Even if our ability to get the ball inside continues to be pathetic.
Just a side note, it was Audige manning the point 90% of the non Buie time, not Berry/Gaines
You're right, I had skipped ahead through parts of the game once we were down 20 and wasn't paying attention to Audige running the point for the most part. I do think Collins is trying to find the thing that clicks with this team, and is not having success for large stretches of games.
I wish he would shake up the starting lineup, given that it has played very poorly together for 5 of the last 6 games.
First 5 games:
Outscoring opponents 96-79, 1.20 oPPP/0.99 dPPP
Last 6 games:
Outscored by opponents 69-98, 0.78 oPPP/1.15 dPPP
In the last 6 games, here are the lineups with a positive +/- and at least 10 possessions together:
Boo-Audige-Gaines-Kopp-Nance, +8 in 17:01
Audige-Gaines-Kopp-Nance-Young, +7 in 10:47 last night
Boo-Berry-Gaines-Kopp-Nance, +7 in 10:16
Boo-Gaines-Kopp-Beran-Nance, +5 in 8:28
Audige-Berry-Kopp-Nance-Young, +13 in 6:15 last night (only reason this didn't get more PT was Berry getting 4 fouls midway through 2nd half)
Greer-Audige-Gaines-Kopp-Young, +10 in 5:10
Feels like it's worth at least swapping out Beran for Gaines to start, and seeing whether we get good Boo or bad Boo to decide whether he needs a quick hook or not.
