We hired a 17ing baseball coach as AD. Cohen is Lonnie Tinkle 2.0. Other than baseball, literally everything he's touched has turned to ****. And he's made the athletic department much more Woke, alienating lots of people.
On Leach specifically: Anyone with a functioning brain knew this wasn't going to work. Trying to run the Air Raid at State was doomed to fail. We've got slow footed run blocking offensive linemen. Mississippi produces a decent pass blocking lineman once a blue moon because our high school coaches are still stuck in the Dark Ages offensively. Unless we're going to go recruit our OL from Texas, Georgia, Florida, etc where the linemen grow up pass blocking in a modern offense, this isn't going to improve. And Leach hates recruiting, so I wouldn't bet on him putting in the effort to actually make this better. We're the Pirate's retirement paycheck. He doesn't give a damn. This is going to get worse.
Cohen should be fired tomorrow. I know we just won a baseball natty. But serious schools judge their ADs on their handling of football because it is the biggest revenue generator in the athletic department. Not one of them would keep an AD that screwed up the football hire this badly, this predictably twice in a row. But this is State, so I'm sure we'll give Cohen a job for life because of baseball.
I never wanted Cohen to become AD and said so at the time, but I was willing to wait and see. Sadly, it's been even worse than I feared. This was such a predictable, self-inflicted wound that could've been prevented.
And I stand behind all this even if we fluke this win.
