This week probably sealed Stansbury's fate.

His team had everything on the line and played worse than I ever could have dreamed they were capable of.

I've been appreciative of Stansbury as a coach many more times than not. But, this week is completely inexcusable with a team full of upperclassmen and a veteran coach. With Sydney most likely missing 30% of next year's games, I don't see any shot at success with what we have coming back next year.

Unfortunately, this means that we would possibly destroy any chances of success with the upcoming in-state HS players. Surely Byrne would find a capable replacement, but if we keep Stansbury one more year than we will be in trouble in that regard.

Maybe Byrne pulls the trigger at the end of this season?

one more year and "potentially" they could be decent next year with Renardo in the lineup.....Plus, if they do have some success next year that may help in getting some of these high profile 2011 recruits like Hood, Adams, O'Bryant, Ross, etc.....2011 is a stacked class in MSand if Renardo happens to come back for his jr. season he may have some pull with some of these players......That would give Stans a a few more years of winning 20 games and still under performing....

We were all cussing and discussing Crooms, but saying "he'll be around for one more season-just w/a change of assistance"

Apparently GB didn't hear, but pulled the trigger.

I'm sure GB has made a few discrete calls in the past few weeks

and Beckham back.....While I don't think we'll be world beaters by any means, we won't be sub .500.......If so, Stansbury WOULD surely be gone........</p>

why wait, we did not improve over last year, our players need more toughness and more muscle. Tn. took it to them over and over on defense.

with Sidney in the lineup, y'all will not have a losing record next year.

And if you think we will not miss the all time best 3 pt shooter in school history and our best on ball defender not to mention the NCAA all time shot blocker record holder then I am afraid you are fooling yourself. <div>
</div><div>You have seen all you will ever see out of Ravern Johnson. If you are expecting improvement out of him you are kidding yourself. Same with Augustus. Bost could get better if he had someone teaching and installing an offense that allowed him to maximize his skills but that condition does not exist. So it will be Renardo playing for himself to get to the League. Not exactly a situation that lends itself to success. </div>

Again, right or wrong, Stans will get at least one more year.......Personally, if we could get someone decent I'd love to see him gone......I just don't see it happening and think he'll win enough games to get by for anotherseason.......</p>

a difference you are kidding yourself, big time. At the end of the day, you will continue to see the exact same offensive "sets", the same subbing patterns, the same attitude, double negatives, and the same result - maybe 20 wins, some piss poor losses. Just a different year and some new faces that's all. We will not win the West next year either. So what's the point in keeping him around.....nothing is going to change. Definitely not going to the Dance.

thats three straight years without an at large bid, so I would want him gone unless he dominates recruiting in the 2011 class.

if he can pull it off and get a couple of those guys that might save his ***.......Otherwise, I agree, he'll be H.I.S.T.O.R.Y.</p>

A) He probably is only going to get a couple of that class at the most

B) Even if he gets 3 of them, why keep him to screw them up? The man couldnt get to a Sweet 16 with LR, Timmy Bowers, Frasier and the rest...he won't even make the Tourney this year with 5 starters returning from a 23 win team last year. Why continue to keep him here to underachieve?

and hell, he has two west titles now doesn't he? And your program is historically much better than ours, you should have higher expectations. Especially if you're playing with what everyone here says is a future NBA all star.

I know he will be back for next year but it is a waste of time. We have been treading water for 5 years now but next year begins the circling of the drain. The trend is going in the wrong direction. A new or young coach could maybe reverse that trend but it is very rare for an experienced coach to do so. An experienced coach who could do that would have implemented the needed changes already. The fact that he has not over the last 5 years tells me he does not have that capability.

about holding Standsbury to a "different standard"- Kennedy now has three 20 win seasons and 2 West titles...and his *** needs to be fired too if you guys don't make the Dance this year or next

5 seasons to rebuild a program is long enough to get a Tourney berth

if he gets three of those recruits in the 2011 class. I judge Stansbury more by the amount of at large bids he gets than how far he gets in the Ncaa tournament.

I don't think Kennedy is a good comparison with Stans. We've been to the NCAA tournament 6 of 8 years. Kennedy has never been. It's a little tougher call to fire Stans.<div>
</div><div>And I'm also not sure that I agree our program is historically much better than yours, for the last 45 years anyway. We went to our first NCAA tournament since the early sixties in 1990. After Tricky Dick Williams took us to the Final Four in 96 there was a huge dropoff. Rob Evans then took over the state for a few years. Rod Barnes did well for a few years too.

that Byrne had actually decided to fire Croom after the UK game, but chose to wait until the end of the year, regardless of the outcome of the Egg Bowl. Croom just made it easier to justify firing him by losing 45-0.

A big difference is this: Football makes more money than basketball. Unless you're Duke- maybe. We needed someone to create excitement, and Byrne knew this. We were drawing well with a team that was a perpetual three win team with a bad loss literally every year. But with the small amount of success of 2007, plus the Liberty Bowl that we sold out that year, I think showed Byrne that we had a lot of potential as a program that was untapped and just needed a reason to show up and support the team. We had a five win season, but no bad losses and just the excitement from Dan and his attitude towards the program caused us to increase our attendance. Imagine what it is going to be like when we start winning 7-8 a year. Keeping Croom around and giving him the off chance of hiring some good assistants even if by dumb luck and allowing him to stay around even longer was not in our best interests because Croom would have kept on talking our program down and worshiping the ghost of the Bear, and glossing over the Egg Bowl. Not to mention Croom's insistence on keeping the white helmets.

One thing about the Liberty Bowl- a lot of the people I talked to around me had not been to one game that year until the bowl. That's a ton of potential season ticket buyers right there. They showed up to the Liberty Bowl because we had done well. I really believe that if we continue to put out a good product- team and gameday experience- we could very easily and justifyibly bowl in our stadium within 10 years easily.

He looks pathetic to me, that same expression of why are we loosing. Do you really think he will improve? It's time to clean the court.

1. Been to the Tourney 6 of 8 years- it's also 6 out of 11 and come next weekend- 6 out of 12 and only 2 of the last 5...should we miss next season, that's 2 out of the last 6 seasons and trending downward.

Mississippi on the other hand, finished 5th twice and 4th twice the 4 years before Kennedy was hired with 5-11 in the SEC their best season in those 4. Since hiring Kennedy, they have 2 West titles, a 3rd, and a 4th- with 7 wins being their worst conference record. 3 out of 4 20 win seasons

I'd say it would be harder to fire Kennedy- he is trending upward. State is trending downward

2. Mississippi has been the worst basketball program in the SEC the last 40 years- 0 titles and 1 Tourney titles- our program has been clearly ahead of theirs

I often judge good coaches by their tree. Look at Izzo( Tom Creen, Final Four coach), Pitino( Billy D. Final Four coach 2 time winner), Boeheim( Pitino Final Four coach, 1 time winner).

Stans tree is still sitting on the bench next to him. How many interviews has Kirby had and never gets? It's obvious that coaches as well as players learn nothing in this "system" Not one single NBA player, even Ben Hansbrough is having a better season at ND.

However, it's tough to get rid of someone who's been around for close to 20 years. He kinda IS msu basketball. The man's wife hasn't left Starkville since she was a student.

I agree that some shake-up needs to happen, I'm just glad it's not me making the decision.
