When I think of Trump and golf together, all I can think of is Caddyshack.

And if he gets elected President he will be right back in the mix... What good is a US Open without the President to be there to present the trophy?

I think of the apprentice, for the most part I liked that show..I also think of the millions he lost in tie sales from Macy's..give the guy a break..just a kid from Queens whose father could only give him a mil to get started.

1. He isn't going to be elected President
2. A US president hasn't presented the US Open trophy since Harding-at least that I'm aware of. I think Taft presented it to Ouimet back in 1913.

Golf is a game that is run by dignified people. Trump ain't that. He's been black-balled.

I looked it up, Taft was an ex-president who watched Ouimet win the US Open. Not sure if he presented trophy.

I typically don't wish ill on anyone and I don't with Trump. But he has brought this on himself and he deserves to be shunned by the golf world. The PGA needs to take away the WGA event at Doral sooner than later.

I choose not to evaluate any course he owns. I had a Scottish guy caddy for me at Pebble back in April. He told me that he had caddied for Trump somewhere. Trump's instructions to him were to walk ahead of everyone and improve Trump's lie if he hit it in the rough. The guy said he did this several times and once Trump complained that the lie wasn't good enough. Anyone who cheats at golf is a lowlife piece of chit.

You can't believe much of what any Scot says, especially if money is involved. The "Donald" may have stiffed the guy because he did not follow his instructions.

I got grouped with a Scottish guy at a course near DC one time. It was a blast.

We did the introductions and he had a heavy accent "Aye, name's Shoon"(or however you'd type out the name Sean in a Scottish accent)

I said, "oh, so you're Italian"
"Aye laddy, loooks like ya got a bit of Celtic in ya yourself"

"oh no, loooks like yur in tha boonker"

It was like I was playing with Shivas Irons.

Caddying at a club with regular members is a normal thing and sounds like what you are describing. Playing with "privileged" individuals, you would be shocked at the stories i have heard. A famous quote is "if you want to know what a person is really like, play a round of golf with them " is absolutely true from my experience.

Dignified people? That is laughable. Golf is run by stuffshirt blowhards who think they are special enough to black ball people. Self righteous ********.

Golf is a leisure game.

The irony is, the one's who lead the USGA are overwhelmingly Republican and those who lead the R&A are overwhelmingly in the Conservative party. None the less, the R&A have blackballed Trump. The European Tour, who is essentially an arm of the R&A, is a global tour. They have events in Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Morocco, and Mauritius-all Muslim countries. We have our FedEx Cup. They have their Race to Dubai. And in case you don't know, Dubai is another Muslim country. And these events in Muslim countries are sponsored by....guess who.....Muslim owned corporations. So, those stuffed shirts aren't dumbasses. They are running a business. And as you wingnuts continually say, let the markets decide. The stuff shirts have decided. That ends you lesson in the business of golf. You're welcome.

While you gave a lot of info, none of it had anything to do with what Dave wrote. Dave never mentioned party affiliations, political views, business philosophies, Golf organizations or countries.

It is ironic that a sport that cling'd to racist and segregationist ideals is denouncing a man who spouts some segregationist ideas.

Thanks, still think Trump is not a major player?
Trump yearns for legitimacy in the golf world. Money doesn't necessarily buy influence in the golf world (ask Bill Gates who was denied membership at Augusta National for years). The "stuffed shirts" do respect people who've accomplished something in the world of golf and respect those who've done something to help grow the game. Trump has done neither. He's simply bought some golf properties and built some new ones. But he's always been seen as cheesy. Someone who flaunts himself and forcing himself on the game. That turns the powers-that-be off. And always has. He lacks the proper decorum as far as they are concerned. When he bought Turnberry-a venerable landmark in golf history which has previously hosted 4 Open Championships including probably the greatest tournament of all time-the Duel in the Sun between Nicklaus and Watson, and immediately changed its name to Trump Turnberry, eyebrows were raised and many in the R&A were pissed. Of course he did the same thing with Doral in Miami. But Doral is no Turnberry. Trump's big mouth has cost him the Open. And I would not be surprised if the PGA Tour follows suit and takes away the Tour event at Doral in the future. Trump's influence in the world of golf has taken a serious hit. He was put up with because of his wallet. But his mouth has proven too much for the stuffshirts to stomach.

That has changed greatly starting back in the 70s when Hall Thompson was called out at Shoal Creek. PGA events and USGA events are no longer held at clubs who discriminate. And neither are Euro Tour and R&A events. Golf is a mirror of society in that regard. Things have improved racially. But we still have a long way to go.

This is a very uneducated comment. The major golf organizations have worked hard the past 40 years to be very inclusive and have been leaders in diversity. There are some private clubs that maintains exclusive policies but the ruling organizations have publicly denounced their actions including removing these clubs from hosting events.

Yes, golf was very segregationist inits past but isn't in the present.

I do in fact. Apparently you missed his correct usage of tense when you proceeded to lambast him for something you then reaffirmed the validity of.

Do you understand what ironic means? Apparently not. There is no irony at all. It would be ironic (and hypocritical) if the golf world denounced him if golf was still embracing discrimination. But it is not. And hasn't as an institution for a long time. So I fail to see any irony nor do I see any hypocrisy.

Ok. I thought I addressed the past which he referred to and i recognized but disagreed with the assertion golf still embraces segregation. I guess i was not successful. And i had no intention of lambasting. Rather stated the comment was uninformed.
