What if:

We won the rest of our games. That puts us at 10-2.

Alabama beats LSU, but loses to MSU and Auburn. Puts them at 9-3.

LSU loses to Bama, and gets beat by Arkansas at Little Rock- which is not out of the question, the Pigs are almost invincible at War Memorial. That puts them at 9-3.

Auburn wins out and wins the SEC Championship Game.

Does that mean that MSU could....dare I say it....end up in the Sugar Bowl? We're 17th in the BCS standings right now I believe, and beating Alabama and Arkansas would only help us move up. We probably could get to the top 10 with those wins and an Egg Bowl win.

Now, I know that this may be unrealistic, but I do think it lays out who we need to "root for". And the best part is no one has to pull for Ole Miss because other than their game vs LSU and the Egg Bowl, they're pretty inconsequential. I don't know what the BCS will do, I don't know that we can control who they take as an at large bid, but going 10-2 has to put us in the mix.

And yes, I fully expect people to call me Sugar Bowl.

Granted, it's possible, but kind of depressing considering how much the odds are against us. Don't take it as me saying that it can't happen which it could, but right now I just want the season to finish out before I even consider the possibility of such a thing.

even if it went down just as you say.. I dont think a 10-2 MSU team would go. I dont even think a 10-2 Alabama team would go to the Sugar Bowl.

...it sure is fun to talk about. I mentioned it on a local radio show last week, even before we played Kentucky. This team has putMSU fans in a position to have fun with projecting different bowl scenarios. I say go for it!

if we end up the only 2-loss SEC team at the end of the regular season and we don't get a Sugar Bowl invite, I'm pissed.

I'll certainly be rooting for the scenario you just mentioned plus another loss by SC. That's a road map I can get comfortable with...

except the part about us winning out.
BUT if we did win out, we would probably be a top-10 BCS team. We would be flirting with it if we beat Alabama.

would have a real hard time not putting in a two loss MSU team in the BCS as an at-large after beating Alabama on the road, Arkansas, Florida on the road, Kentucky, and Georgia and losing to a team in the BCS Championship Game by a field goal. I know some of those teams are down, but that's still a darn impressive resume.

I almost put Houston, but they're clearly not the same without Keenum. Still, that's a fairly quality non-BCS road win. I also think that UAB will sneak into a bowl at 6-6 as well, so decent win there to.

If we were 10-2 and coming off a 9 game win streak I think we would be in New Orleans

either TCU or Utah. Maybe they would, I just dont think they'll take a 2 loss SEC. Remember, the last couple at large bids have been 1 & 2 all year (Bama in 09, Florida in 10). I think it's asking alot for a teamto get an at large bid after only having been ranked for 1/2 the season.

Edit: Nevermind, I realize bama would be 9-3 in that scenario. See, I told you I was an idiot.

^^^If alabama loses to lsu and msu that would put them at 9-3? and Auburn losing to UGA and Bama would put them at 10-2 and since they beat us they would go to the SEC CG. So yes I will call you an idiot for being wooly.

How frustrating would it be in this scenario... We win out, Alabama wins out, and Auburn is 11-1.... Auburn plays in the SECCG and BCSCG yet Alabama gets picked over us to go to the Sugar bowl. Although it does suck to get snubbed that bad....it's kind of refreshing to think of a possible situation that we could get screwed over for going to a high bowl game.
