2010 National Championship team:

Plumlee (SR) = Zoubek (SR)
Jefferson (SR) = Thomas (SR)
Jeter (FR) = Plumlee 1&2 (FR/SO)
Ingram (FR) = Singler (JR)
Kennard (FR) = Dawkins (FR)
Jones (JR) = Scheyer (SR)
Allen (SO) = Smith (JR)
Thornton (FR) = NO MATCH

..The Plumlee/Jefferson & Zoubek/Thomas combos are almost identical in size, skill, & experience.. However, Marshall is (much) more athletic than Z and Amile is a bigger offensive threat than Lance.

..Chase is about as close to (FR) Mason & (SO) Miles as possible.. Exact same size, athleticism, and a lot of untapped potential.. I do wish we had 2 Jeter's on this team though.

..Ingram & Singler are similar in that they are both SF's that can/could potentially play any position on the court.. Kyle was stronger, which made him a better option than Ingram in the post, but Ingram has better guard skills and is a better 3pt shooter.. But I don't think we can (or should) expect (FR) Ingram to be as good as (JR) Kyle.

..a (FR) Kennard & a (FR) Dawkins are very similar.. Same size and both are deadly scorers that just need a little more time before they will shine.. Luke is a better ball handler than Dre and has a higher ceiling.

..Matt & Jon are very similar in size, skillset, and the fact that neither of them are PG's but now have to play important minutes as PG.. Jon made much better decisions as a PG, but Matt is stronger and a better defender.. This would probably be an even better comparison if Matt was a (SR) like Jon was.

..Grayson & Nolan are both scoring guards with very good driving and shooting abilities.. Both are probably the most dangerous offensive players on their team.. Nolan had better PG abilities, but Grayson is bigger and more athletic.

..There is no comparison for Thornton.. The 2010 team did not have a true PG.. I believe Thornton's play this year can be the difference between this team being put out in the 2nd Round or going to the Final Four... No pressure, kid.

Ingram is not even close to being Kyle Singler. Singler played with passion and Ingram seems very disinterested in playing college basketball.

I get your point, and there are obvious similarities. But Sr. Singler and Sr. Scherer were two Duke greats. No one on the current team truly matches up. I'm not sure Amile is better than Lance, though that is a close comparison. If some of our guys develop and stay a little while these comps. May ring truer

Ingram has a better 3 than Kyle? I think it is the opposite based on 1) actual stats, 2) eye test and 3) shooting form. As for scoring in the paint, there is no comparison either. Kyle could finish strong but Ingram always had to alter his shot to avoid contact. Don't even get me started on defense and motor. The only thing Ingram has right now is a longer wingspan.
Ingram may have a better long term upside. But I don't expect to see it pay dividends for us this year. And I think he really needs two years in college (to bulk up somewhat at least).

Zo was a much better rebounder/defender. Dre had a picture perfect release and was productive from day one (almost saved us in Wisconsin).

Love the optimism, but realistically, it is pre-mature and wishful thinking to compare this team to 2010, which was special. This team will improve and maybe do well. But 2010 is only possible if all the stars line up.
