I will keep this simple as the statistics say it all. These teams will line up hat to hat and see who can stop the run. Both teams may take a few chances with the passing game, but I look for this to be a defensive battle. Surprisingly, the punt team play may be the most important part of the game.
Defensively, Dinwiddie will attempt to squash the inside running game of Thomas Dale and contain Tyree by stringing out sweeps. This young man can break one at any time, so linebacker play will be very important. If K’Vaughan Pope returns this week it will be a huge boost for the Generals run defense. To date, we have not received any confirmation regarding Popes status.
Thomas Dales defensive front four is a very sound unit and tackle well. Their defensive backs provide sound coverage and have good speed. The Knights like to bring their linebackers towards the line and blitz whenever possible. The Generals must exploit the edge by using sweeps, screens, and dumps to the running backs. I look for Coach Mills to employ an offensive game plan similar to the one used against Salem.
If you are looking for an offensive explosion you will be disappointed. If you like hard hitting, ram it down your throat football this is the game to see. No prediction here. Too close to call.
