Thompson is going to be this year's Elliott....

....both schools want him, and both schools think they are getting him.

This will decide the fate of who's scout recruiting analyst is a liar and who is accurate for 2009. The suspense is riveting.

So, I guess Dan is going to get into a fight with Houston Nutt in Thompson's front yard?

Is Gene going to adopt him as his guardian and take his phone calls?

...is that our class hinges on 4 uncommitted players: Newton, Thompson, Sanders, and Robinson. We could get all four, or we could get shut out. If we get shut out, we are looking at a very bad recruiting year. If we get all four, we will look pretty good on paper. Realistically, I think 3 out of 4 is best case scenario, because I think Sanders will ultimately end up at OM.

him just because he's an OL. I may be wrong, but I feel like there are almost always enough athletes in MS that decent to good recruiting will get us serviceable players at every position but QB and OL. Add in the fact that it seems like QB and OL are the hardest positions for true freshmen to play, I'd rather take a decent OL prospect than a good (but not great) prospect at any other position except for maybe qb.

I agree I want him bc he's a huge OL, but next years class in MS is full of OL. We will get to "pick and chose" who we take.

Elliot was committed to Ole Miss and both sides were saying the complete opposite things. Seems Yancy and Steve both think Thompson is a toss-up. Of course they are both optimistic for their own sides.

Couple of things:

First, I don't see it as two situations in which both sides think they're going to get a player, and it could be either one that actually does. I see it as a situation in which Steve has good sources and gives good information, while Yancy goes by what recruits say to him and by inference. Steve was right on Elliott and has been right on many, many other players. Yancy has been wrong too often to count. Until I see otherwise, I'm going to assume that Thompson is in fact a State lean and Yancy doesn't know what he's talking about. If Ole Miss lands Thompson, then it will be as you said it was, but I doubt that at this point.

Second, I don't thing Eulls or McPhee will have any effect on Thompson's plans, at least they shouldn't if he's smart. Eulls is one DE if he doesn't switch to DT and you have to play at least two at a time. McPhee will be a senior and will have virtually no effect on Thompson's career, even if he doesn't redshirt, which at 220 pounds may be likely. If McPhee will affect his decision, then that actually bodes well for us since Ole Miss now has a commitment from Wayne Dorsey, who will be there 2 years as opposed to McPhee's one, and will almost certainly get Josh Tillman, another JUCO DE, as well. Throw in Bo Tillman from prep school last year and Mike Thomas from prep school this year, and Ole Miss has more bodies there than we do. We'll get Thompson.

I don't care to get into the "who will get Thompson fray" and I hate to take up for Steve or Yancy, but can you not see the stupidity in the quote above?

By your logic, Steve has been right before and Yancy has been wrong before, therefore Steve is right.

Could the same be said by an OM lemming..."Steve has been wrong before in some instances and Yancy has been right in some instances, so I'll believe Yancy."

How about this...Steve and Yancy have both been wrong countless times. Steve and Yancy have both been right countless times. When you flip a coin, the odds say you will get heads sometimes and other times you will get tails.

Neither of these guys are the gospel on anything. Yet lemmings from both sides like to talk about how they trust one over the other. It basically just comes down to which school the lemming cheers for.

if you are in anyway comparing the credibility of Steve and Yancy. Steve has certainly been wrong on occassion but at least does try to give an accurate picture of MSU's chances at landing a particular recruit. On the other hand, Yancy has proven over and over again that he is so jaded in his reporting that nothing he puts out could really be counted on to be accurate. Of course Yancy's biggest problem is that he will never let himself actually believe that there could be a recruit out there who having a choice between MSU and OM would really choose MSU given his view of the OM football program superioriority to MSU.

Why can we not just leave it at that?

Damn.

Steve probably has a touch more intelligence than Yancy.

But Yancy is an idiot.
