HS size and speed will be a factor in this game especially if it's a cold night. Can the thornton smaller guys take the pounding the will get from trying to tackle Curry, can they cover HS big receiver and the HS defense swarming around. Needless to say we will have to wait and see.
Sounds like a ringing objective endorsement for hs.
What day is this game played on?
What type of year has Josh King had for HS? I know he was injured early. I would think this is the type of game where he could be a difference maker for HS.
There is also some entertainment in Harvey that can get one excited.Never been so excited to go to Harvey, IL before in my life.
This will be a game to go see, can't wait for it. I'm going with Hinsdale South 42-28 in this game. Thornton may have speed, but South can match that speed as well. Turnovers...whoever forces the most turnovers in this game wins.

I'm pretty pumped. Nervous too, Thornton is a damn good team. It's a shame one of these teams has to get bounced in the 1st round.
This is the consequence of the loss to WB. Although HS ended up winning conference, I knew that game would result in a lower seed and a tough 1st round opponent.
Oh well, now just get it done.
That loss to WB killed them but hey it's play ball or go home and I think they will be fine in this game.I'm pretty pumped. Nervous too, Thornton is a damn good team. It's a shame one of these teams has to get bounced in the 1st round.
Yeah, we're on the same page with that. If they get past Thornton, they'll play (and beat) Oak Forest. Then Lincoln Way North and then SHG. I want SHG. One game at a time though. Out of any of the teams I just named, Thornton scares me the most.
Yes, one game at a time, Thornton can be scary if they get loose on you (particularly, outside). Our defense (i.e. LBs) has to play a disciplined game and don't over pursue on the run. Thornton likes to throw the screen to back leaking out on backside. Their back has hit a few home run off of this. Otherwise, they try to beat you on the edge.
Hornet,
As a person who has seen Thornton live 2x (against LWW and LWN), here is my take (which is worth nothing).
Obvious: as it has been said many times, the Thornton team speed is very good. The LWW D1 linebacker with great speed was outclassed. Branch from LWN who has serious speed was matched.
Not so Obvious: Thornton QB can throw as well as run. If you play the run, he will burn you and his receivers possess great speed as well. They are not a one dimensional team.
Also not so obvious: Thornton D-Line is big and Linebackers and D-backs have speed. Between the 20's they can be beat. Both LWW and LWN moved the ball on them but inside the Redzone they are really tough. The aforementioned combination is really tough near the end zone and both LWW and LWN had multiple first and goals inside the 10 and did not score. (So did Bradley)
Key stats: HS played better competition in GW and HC but failed to beat them. They also lost to Willowbrook. HS did not beat a team with a winning record. Thornton beat Bradley, LWW and Morgan Park.
Final Opinion. Don't know much about HS but the key to Thornton is do they self destruct. They almost lost to LWW because they had 4 TD's called back due to penalty which got LWW back in the game. Only a late interception saved them. Against LWN they had 4 turnovers, many giving LWN a shorter field to work with. Even then, they still had a chance to tie with a two point conversion with a minute left in the game. No penalties or turnovers in those games, Thornton wins both easily. Thornton does not self destruct, they win somewhat easily. Thornton does, advantage goes to HS.
Hornet,
If you feel my assessment of the HS matchup with Thornton was good, why do you have to get defensive and throw out hypotheticals as a response. My statement that HS did not beat a winning team is a fact. My statement that Thornton beat (3) playoff teams is a fact. This was not an attack at you or HS, it was part of my analysis. I even stated the HS schedule included better competition such as GBW and HC (though their last loss was ugly). Did you have get defensive and go to HS would destroy MP, BB and beat LWW if they played Thornton's schedule - can't be proven. To say that Thornton would have at best the same results on the HS schedule - can't be proven. If you had simply stated HS played two very good teams like HC and GBW very competitively and the team can use that experience to prepare for Thornton and they will not be intimidated, I can certainly accept that but to demean Thornton and the conference they play in with hypotheticals does not bring useful analysis to the debate. HS has enough positives to stand up on their own without throwing out hypotheticals (fake situations that can't be proven). Leave that to the hypothetical experts like Ramblin!
On a more positive note, I may join you in Harvey on Friday (I assume you are going) as LWW is playing on Saturday. This game will go a long way in giving the SWSR credibility which they don't seem to get on this board. My other option is Naz/Sycamore as LWW has also played Sycamore but I just don't think that game will be as good as HS/Thornton.

Be careful what you wish for. If HSHS had a hard time with Willowbrook's spread offense, imagine what SHG's offense could do. I think, unfortunately, HSHS has a brutal path with Thornton, LWN, and SHG. Kudos to them though for being the only team to represent the Gold in the playoffs.
I agree with everything you say.IMO, this is the toughest game to pick in the 1st round. Plus, whoever wins this game would be favored against probably Oak Forest. Either of these teams could make a long run, which makes picking it correctly all the more important. If I'm LWN, I would not want to face Thronton a second time, but HS is the type of team that can beat anyone in 6A. Then again, LWN may not get by Richards in the second round. This quad is by far the toughest road to the semis in 6A. And then the survivor probably gets to face SHG.

Is Morgan Park any good? They kept it relatively close week one against Thornton but have they played anyone else that's good?
Dean, if you look at the Maxpreps site for Lemont you will see they already show a game scheduled for 11/13 against LWN.the top of 6A much easier. I am also stuck on Lemont Crete round 2
