do you think we will see more african-american baseball players recruited, than under Polk? Not that race should really matter, but it always bothered me that MSU consistently had fewer blacks on the baseball squad than other SEC teams.

I have liked everything about Cohen so far, but holy ****, please tell me that was an attempt to get females to come to the games.

The good news is that our conditioning is likely to improve.

Also, as far as AA baseball players- really we aren't all that much worse than most of the other teams in the SEC. There were a lot of things about Polk that I didn't like, but not having very many AA baseball players never really bothered me all that much. There is no doubt that AA can play baseball, but you could have a coach that is as racist as David Duke and put together an all white team that could win a lot of games. I just want the best players that we can get, regardless. I'd actually like to see us go get some Latino players myself.

I'm with you Todd4, Cohen needs to step up the recruiting with the Latino players. Puerto Rico should have some good ones. Palmeiro was Cuban. Maybe Raffy can spring for a translator to be added to the staff (tongue in cheek).

Yea, they're called black. I've never met a black guy that was offended by the term black, and I've never met one that didn't use the term white. Too many people get caught up in this PC ********.

not the last time UK played at the Dude but the time before they had a black kid in the outfield that was from Columbus. That dude was all over the field making diving catches and playing all out on every pitch. That got me sorta pissed because Corly and most of our outfielders were just jogging around watching balls go all the way to the wall without much effort to stop them. The whole UK team played all out, all weekend and we lucked out winning the series. I don't care what color a player is if he plays that hard every game. A player like that should not have to go to Kentucky to play ball. That's the main thing we will see different in our teams from here on. Coach Cohen will not put up with this " olley ******** " we've had to see the last several years. I could do without the mo looking picture though. Yuckerinski !

And more will take MLB money if they are good enough to play. The only black players I can remember in the last 10 years was Enrico Jones and Michael Brown. I think Jones was signed by Polk maybe but Brown was signed by McMahon.

I said that we should sign two-sport athletes. Not only does Sylvester Croom have a chance at 4-* and 5-* players that way, but it would free up some scholarships for John Cohen to use. Murray claimed that football "took up too much time". I call ********. For a school that's as small as ours, offering to let some stud football player also play baseball is the only way we can compete with athletic programs with 2-3 times our athletic budget. Besides, what do most football players do in the spring? Being known as the school "that would let you play two sports" would give us an edge in recruiting.

...if the volleyball team put on their bikinis, got oiled up for a photo shoot and we slapped the picture on an official poster?

It's really pretty simple. The 2 sport player simply plays football full-time in the fall, then plays baseball in the spring. During spring football practice, he's not available to the baseball team except for weekend series. Spring football practice can be on say Mon-Tue-Thu each week. The player would miss the spring football game, but who really cares about that anyway.

Two good things about this picture:

1. Cohen's baseball players are actually expected to lift weights and develop their strength.
2. There are more black players in that picture than MSU has recruited in the 7-year Polk II era.

Adam Larson only played for McMahon and promptly quit once Polk II came on board.

I will submit Mike Valentine and Brett Cleveland, however for Polk II.

I can live with the gay man posters if we win a NC. I don't have to look at the posters after all.

At any rate, an annual gay poster is much more tolerable than excuse after excuse, bitching about the NCAA, leaving pitchers in too long, proclaiming yourself as the AD of baseball and that you have earned the right to name your chosen successor, and I could go on.

And like I said, it may help get some women to come to the games, and I certainly have no problem with that.

Edit to add- I hope that one of the "improvements" of the Diamond Girls program is a bathing suit calendar. That would counteract the gay workout calendar in my book.

A player can get up to speed football-wise during summer workouts. They can start getting ready for baseball in January. It's not that huge of a deal. It takes hard work, but it can be done and Has been done.

If the player is on football scholarship, he doesn't need to be missing all of spring practice to play baseball. Hell, by missing baseball during the mid-weeks of spring practice, he'd only be missing 8 or so games anyway, and those would mostly be against the Samfords of the world. I'd much rather have my 2-sport athlete at spring football practice than playing baseball against Samford.

seems to make it work somehow. I understand that it would be difficult to do both, and both coaches- in this case Croom and Cohen- need to work together and make some concessions. I highly suspect that in the past Polk had the problem.
