Thoughts from watching Singleton and Price tonight.

To start off, Madison did play Warren Central tonight, so the level of competition was not top notch.

1) Joe Price had about 200 rushing yards tonight at the end of the 3rd quarter. Very quick, especially out of his cuts. Very good vision. Hits the hole, and bursts through it. Doesn't have breakaway speed though. At the end of all of his long TD runs, he had to juke out someone that caught him to get in the endzone. I don't see him as a corner. He is way too short, especially for the SEC. With the moves he has, I see him as more of a slot receiver. He will take some time to mold into an SEC caliber guy though.

2) Although Tobias didn't get a ton of action tonight, I wasn't amazingly impressed with him. He needs to put on some muscle. The Madison QB didn't really help him at all, because the only on target pass I saw to Tobias was a few bubble screens. Didn't really have a chance downfield tonight. He looked a little slow out of his cuts. They ran him out of the wildcat tonight at QB. Every time he kept the ball and ran it up the middle, he was at full speed by the time he hit the offensive lineman. He gets to his top speed very quickly. Didn't do great in the return game. The Warren Central punter really bombed a few punts, and Tobias didn't judge them very well, and let one go through his hands. Also got a dumb penalty for running a punt for a TD after calling a fair catch.

3) Overall Madison stayed pretty vanilla on offense and didn't have to throw it much. Price got a lot of opportunities, and took advantage of them. He looked good, even if it was against a pretty bad team. My opinion of him grew a lot tonight, and I think he has an opportunity down the road to make an impact.

Price is a good pickup. I've seen him play 3 times and he's got the talent to play in the SEC, especially after a year or two in the weight room.

For a long time, Warren Central was one of the top football schools in the state. It's hard to imagine how far they've fallen.

Tobias is a much better player than Price. There's no question about that. MC had a much better QB last year in Peyton Johnson who could throw the ball downfield some- better than what they have now, and that along with the fact that every defense keys on him is hurting him this year. Singleton is bigger- like 6-1" and so he is more physical, and he is very competitive. I have seen Tobias do some incredible things- like outrun the entire South Panola defense. He is definately a slot WR in college. You put him one on one with a LB or safety, and the defense is going to have some problems. Very similar to Chad Bumphis. Should he come to MSU, I think he will be a BIG part of our offense because Tyler Russell can utilize him downfield and we can do a lot of things like reverses and things like that with him and maybe an occasional wildcat play. He can't throw the ball worth a darn. He is about 180, but I think that Balis would really help bulk him up.

Price- I asked out loud in the stands why no one was paying attention to him and that I would take him at MSU. Guess you get what you ask for sometimes, huh? I'm not at all surprised that he is a tick faster than Tobias, but he is simply not as good a football player as Tobias. I agree with you- he can makes plays with the ball in his hands, so I don't know that putting him a cornerback is all that great of an idea. There were times where I actually felt more comfortable with the ball in his hands as opposed to Tobias. I think Joe is our kick returner of the future. Even if Joe Price is part of a package deal, we're getting a REAL good player.

Warren Central- Man, I remember when this was a big game for MC. What happened to Brian Darden, Kevin Prentiss, the Morgan's, and Thad Busby?

Price has been clocked at 4.28 and 4.33. I'm pretty sure he has breakaway speed. I think he projects as a DB, but Mullen said he would give him a chance at offense. I can also see him being used in the slot in particular situations (get him the ball from time to time on some screens and quick throws and see if he can make something happen). I also think he will make a great return specialist, like Trindon Holiday.
