Thoughts on Cam Lawrence and Sam Watts enrolling in classes today?

I wouldn't be surpised if Lawrence is a contributor this fall. Any time you can get an OL in such as Watts for an extra semester of D1 weight training, it's needed. Who knows maybe he'll make his way on the field.

Early HS enrollees are a bigtime trend in recruiting now. Last year Florida had half their high school class in for spring training. It's good for the schools and good for the players, although you miss that last semester of goofing off as a HS senior.

In addition to the six jucos and two HS enrolling today, we'll also have a few folks back that will be heavily counted on.

Anthony Johnson (maybe)
Jamar Chaney
Rodney Prince
Thomas Webb
Plus all the redshirts including Freeman, Hardy, Tobias Smith, etc

We'll definately be more talented on paper when we take on Jackson State than we were at the end of 2008

Oops. I shifted gears and started talking about Watts without clarifying. Fixed it.

They're full time students and on scholarship now. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to participate in spring practice.

Now Hoskins and Sweedenburg were greyshirts from last Feb who were supposed to enroll for this semester. Who knows if the current staff honored those plans though.

don't they count towards last seasons class? I know that there is a limit to how many you can sign at a time. If that's the case, it opens up more scholarships for this years class.

...and it's a serious question. Since you had a huge problem with McKenzie's level of competition, what about Lawrence? I've seen him once live and once at a camp. What do you think?

I know you didn't ask me but Cam Lawrence is going to be a good player for State. He has good speed and hits hard. He'll be a good SS or if he gets a little bigger will be a good OLB.

They only count against the 2008 class if we failed to use all 25 scholarships. For instance, if we brought in 23, two of the guys we brought in would count against 2008 and the rest 2009.

I've seen little tidbits that he probably won't be back but I don't have a clue what the reasons are. He was probably our best corner in 07 so I certainly hope he gets to play again for us but at this point I'm not counting on it.

...biggest problem in the whole deal is that he's Duncan McKenzie's son.

Perhaps I'm reading you wrong though.

Cameron will try to put his helmet THROUGH you if given the chance; the kid lives to hit. He is extremely athletic and overall a pretty good kid. Very nice father also.

Mr Secret Weapon Arceto Clark. I'm curious as to how good these two will be next year in Mullen's offense. I think Clark will be really good.... thoughts?

where else does he have offers from?</p>

Ole Miss made him an offer and he told them that he wasn't going to go there.

He did make First Team All-State from the "biased" Clarion-Ledger, and that was before he committed.

He's not a guy that's going to come in on day 1 and start, but he's no Joseph Iupe either.
