Ya'll knew that I had to weigh in on this. aGAIN

Dear Chip Durham- you've lost whether or not you have to forfeit. Your team ran out of town like a bunch of rats. And now everyone in the college baseball world is going to know it.

So, you took pictures THREE HOURS before the game showing that the field was umplayable. I guess you never have haerd of drying compound, or drainage systems. Oh, not to mention the scientific phenomenon of evaporation.

So, you say the umpires in Birmingham AN HOUR AWAY couldn't make it. Well, that proves your point because we all know that weather is the same in all places. Just because it's raining in Jackson, well it must be raining in Memphis. Or Los Angeles by that logic.

But...but....you would have high school umpires doing the game. I guess Mr. Durham is insinuating here that the officials would be unfair and biased since they would be local. BUT you're not scared to play MSU. If you're team is as good as you claim, you should be able to overcome our hometown umpires. But hey, you ONLY lost by two runs in both games.

But...but...I don't want my team to get hurt. John Cohen had a well documented scrimmage on said field. To my knowledge, no one got hurt. Feelings or otherwise. He also took the greatest risk of getting someone hurt when he had the team roll around in the dirt. Not being critical, I thought it was a good move, and in fact no one got hurt.

The thing about this is MSU won, whether we get a victory or not from the NCAA- and in my opinion we should, the bottom line is this guy ran out of town to try to spite John Cohen and his "trash-talking" assistants. The reason MSU won is because now everyone in the college baseball world is going to know about our bad *** coach that wants his team to play in bad conditions and does whatever it takes to win. And isn't scared of anyone. And if you do cross him, you're going to be publicly humiliated. This is going to trickle down to the players. We were tougher than they were. We went out and played and didn't make anu excuses, even though it didn't count.

Remember this. This is just the beginning. And for the record, to spite, Nicholls State, we should count this game as a win in our record book and media guide to serve as a reminder. It would be appropriate because I think this is a building block to what we are starting to become.

1) There is a reason why Cohen is at a upper D1 program and Durham is in the lower D1.

2) I think we should have a make up game but let our baseball players and there "bulldog approach" take on Nichols State in football, I'd give NSU 3 points and take Msu baseball to cover!

A John Cohen team is gonna be ready under every condition. I think he is building character right now for teams in the future. Gonna be exciting to see how this plays out in the coming years.

Birmingham is more like 2.5 hours away from Starkville, not 1. Just sayin.

You're either going through Meridian or stopping at the Gordo Sack O' Suds for some vienna sausages. That trip is an hour-forty max.

It's 140 miles from Starkville to Birmingham and a few of those miles are on Tuscaloosa city streets around the toll bridge. It can be done in about 2 hours pretty reasonably.

you are going through hoover on 459 and staying away from 20/59 through birmingham.

But still thats hauling ***, As I know 82 all to well from trips from starkville to northport, and its 84 miles from one to the other with a good 15 miles of that being reform to gordo 2 lane speed trap.

2 hours is more like it.

I live in helena and make the trip between there and starkville 2 to 3 times a month and it isnt an hour and 45 minutes unless you go 90 on I 20 and go 85 all thru mississippi, and good luck not getting stopped by a cop. its about 2 hours and 10 minutes if you go around 80 on I 20 and 75 thru mississippi. The snow in bham along I 20 to starkville was pretty significant. They have 5 inches in some places. I can understand why the umps didnt make it, but the snow and rain totals from the past few days was different in bham than starkville. Our snow was completely melted in all open areas by lunch and wasnt in bham. The game could have been played, made obvious by the fact we scrimmaged. I can understand the umps not being here, but if we could find local ones the game could have been played.

So if you're there, and there aren't any officials yet because of travel condidtions, you can just leave before they get there and not have to forfeit the game? That's BS. They should have at least had to wait on the officials to get there to "make the call". They left town at 11 o'clock, according to VZ's blog.

The hour drive thing. That drive to Tusca is about an hour itself. Depending on what part of Birmingham, it could be up to two hours.

But your right in saying that they are pussies and we are badasses.

Thank you John Cohen

they would rather have 3 guys drive anywhere from 1 hour 40 minutes to 2.5 hours depending who you ask just to say "take the field" to a team that is not there.

Fantastic.

that's exactly what Cohen should have done. According to the blog, Burroughs called the umpire's coordinator and told him not to bother finding officials since Nichols had left. He should have told him to send them on just to say "play ball." That would have been money well spent. Hindsight's 20/20 I guess.

Umpires in Birmingham were on hold waiting for word that we would play. MSU told them tentatively yes and that a call would be made at 11am. If the game was a go, the plan was going to be to delay the game 30 minutes while the umpires drove to Starkville. Coehn wasn't going to use high school umpires, who couldn't have called a valid game. By 11am, Nicholls had bailed from Starkville.

Still no word from the NCAA.

Seems like we should have called the Umps, told them to come, say "play ball" to only one team to get the forfeit
