Especially what you know about Warren. Just put what you know about Warren here and I guess other 8A thoughts.

I saw some film of Warren against Stevie. Warren flies around, they are a good 8A team. They seem to have played tough against Barrington (lost 34-20), took LZ to double OT and beat a solid Stevie team. I'm expecting a 4 quarter battle versus the Brook, but then again I'm not sure how to compare the SWS and the northern teams this fall. Edit: but they also have a seemingly bad loss to Zion-Benton. Not sure what to make of that.

I thought their defense looked fairly porous against LZ as they had a very difficult time getting a stop when they needed one. That said, their offense made LZ look just as porous when they were in open field. Had a tough time getting push against LZ on short yardage but their skill guys do serious damage.

Just my observations but this team, much like any other that turns the ball over, can be its own worst enemy. With that being said, when they have their passing game rolling, its one of the tougher ones to defend.

Jones is the 6-5 kid going to Notre Dame and he is the primary target with 11 TD catches this year. The key in this offense is when they can get the ball to the TE. He is a physical kid with good speed and better hands. When he lines up in the slot he is a tough match up because he can run go routes and simple seam routes.

The running game has always been complimentary but their back is near 1000 yards on the season and when he has played well, their offense plays well.

Defensively, they are very young - 4 sophomores that see regular playing time, but extremely athletic. Their outside backers are quick and very physical. The secondary since the LZ game has improved.

I think the key is how well they defend the pass vs Bolingbrook. Other than Niro, nobody really ran that effectively on them this year so its an area they excel at.

I agree with Bones, I think this is one of the better match ups in round 1. Both teams present match up problems for the others. I'm interested to see how the young guys perform in the spotlight like this.

Should be a good one.

Hows about this Marist OPRF game? Last week before the pairings my old man asked if I was going on the annual fall wine walk which is next Saturday. Anticipating a possible game I declined (some DSR members laughed at me a couple years ago for being on one during the playoffs). When I was discussing the pairings with him a few days ago he told me at least he won't be conflicted this year since they have Marist in rd 1.

But is it a forgone conclusion?

How about Huntley - Edwardsville?

South Elgin-Palatine?

H-F against Lake Park?

good questions.

Marist OPRF has one of those weird feelings around it. OPRF has a real good coach in Hoerster. I think Marist wins but close.

Don’t know enough about Edwardsville. Mooney Mooney and more Mooney - Huntley wins.

Does anyone know how good S Elgin is? I think Palatine with close losses to Barrington Stevenson and Maine S has the better pedigree. Like the Pirates here.

Lake Park - nice story. End of story. HF wins big

Marist worries me. They were clearly the cream of the crop of the ESCC, but the ESCC is pretty down at the current moment in my opinion. The Redhawks crushed Naz and beat Benet, while they missed ND on the schedule.

OPRF has 4 quality losses, but their wins aren't particularly strong outside of Simeon.

I took Marist, but really tried to talk myself into OPRF.

But what the hell do I know, I took Marist to win 8A in last years King's Challenge and they lost in round 1 to New Trier.

I think all are close with the exception of Lake Park - HF.

Can someone explain the OPRF love to me?

The Huntley - Edwardsville game is the most intriguing to me. We all know how good Mooney is for Huntley. However, Edwardsville's quarterback might be even more electric and their running back play seems to be finding more consistency. I look at this as a true toss up game and possibly who scores last.

To add on to the intrique, whoever wins this game has one the easiest paths to the quarterfinals. No disrespect to Bloom/Palatine and Barrington/ND, but they aren't MS, LWE, LA, etc.

I picked Huntley but my rooting interests are divided from a southern team, with which I have no present ties, or Huntley, led by my daughter's favorite teacher ever. I'm leaning toward supporting Coach Zim - he's done more for me than Martin ever could.

Of the 9-0 teams Marist easily got the toughest opponent. Even in a down year.

If they lose the ESCC needs to legally be declared a dumpster fire.

Marist had the round 1 letdown last year ,which i was at. Different Marist this year though. The DLine , different QB. Just wasn't ready as a soph last year. More of a dual threat. Young skills with speed like Skalitzky. OP seems to disappoint in playoffs as well.

If anyone knows of a live stream URL for the Marist OPRF game and can post it I'd appreciate it. I looked on the cube and NFHS but can't find it, if there is one.
