Where is he getting that number? We would be playoff contenders with that kind of payroll for two position groups.
Well, first off, I think he got a bit crossed up in his wording. $15 million is the widely reported revenue sharing number for the P4 schools. So he may have had that on tip of his tongue, but then applied it only to OL/DL.
But, he’s not as far off as you think. There are 9 lineman positions, they make up 41% of the depth chart. If you apply 41% of the $15 million rev share to them, it’s $6.1 million. Then comes NIL, and this particular year you had all those astronomical deals getting grandfathered in before the house settlement agreement. Is it impossible for us to have $8.9 million in NIL spread around to 20-25 players? I don’t think so.
I don’t think the total amount is $15 million, but I bet it’s over $12 million. And I bet its probably double or triple of what USM is paying their entire roster.
