Oh I think Texas would be welcomed about anywhere. But the contractual obligation they have to LHN wouldn't allow it. The XII is the only conference that would let them have it. As was said maybe in another thread in the last seven days, the Longhorns ruined the XII. They ran off longtime quality schools like Mizzou, Nebraska and A&M with the LHN, and now they're finding out that it makes it so much easier to line up and play against them when you can get all the insights about the various burnt orange coaching theories in all sports. LHN has made them less competitive.
Don't kid yourself, Charlie can coach. He won at Louisville and if he's set adrift from the Good Ship Longhorn, he'll win where he goes. He may have to do a stint as a DC first.
The only Texas option if they don't want to play in the XII any more is to go independent. You've heard talk about that, and the LHN is why. It's possible that some deal could be worked out, where ESPN, who is losing a ton of money on the network might be convinced to let them out of it. Most like it would be to the SEC, because ESPin likes promoting the SEC. Just combine the two. Maybe.
But my guess is that the arrogance will lead them to some sort of move to be independent. Look at what BYU has been facing with that. Their first four games were Boise, at Nebraska, At UCLA and at Michigan. That's pretty stout. They had to load up early because it's hard to find anybody once the conference play stops. Kind of surprising that they didn't schedule Notre Dame. I suspect the Domers didn't want to play them. Or only would in South Bend. The remainder of their schedule is pretty second level opposition, except Wagner, who is below that that, and Mizzou, which is another long road trip to play in Arrowhead. BYU fans are going to be getting a little tired of traveling to see their team.
Scheduling as an independent can be a tough task with long trips kind of the requirement.
I suspect that just about every team from the XII, and former, likely except for OU, would be mad enough to not schedule them. I think it would be hilarious.
The same forces that would make this come to pass, are the ones that would send Charlie packing before he has a chance to coach his recruits as upper classmen. They have a pretty good class of freshman this season.
And while the Aggies like to do a little crowing these days, have they won a division yet? First year, Manziel was incredible. They beat Alabama, but tied for second in the West with LSU who beat them.. Second year, middle of the pack. Fourth place. 4-4 conference record. Last year, sixth, aka next to last in their division.a game ahead of Arky.
They are a sell stock. Making a ton of money, but if that is the way we evaluate, then Texas is the second best program in the country. And I'm a little skeptical that A&M, for all their speed at receiver, and back up quarterback, is going to be any better this year. They caught lightning in a bottle in year one of the SEC in 2012.
After the next three games, we'll know a lot. host MSU, host Bama, go to Ole Miss. If they're still undefeated by the end of the Ole Miss game, I'll apologize.
