Throwback: Who remembers the Matt Jones/Marc Maggard saga?

This thread brings back memories for sure. I never posted much, but I've been around for over 20 years and on nearly any site there was that had recruiting info.

He's an ***, but that time period was a blast for recruiting nuts. It was wild.

Can verify this. Knew someone who was a photographer for UK and he even had his photos stolen from Jones. MJ is just lucky enough to build his steps on people who were nice enough to let it happen.

Edit: MM was a turd. He doesn’t fall in the “nice enough to let it happen” category. But plenty do. Matt Jones is a piece of the worst kind of ****. Matt Jones is a weasel that has taken advantage of everyone he has ever known. Why else would this talentless blob have the stage he does and be able to promote morons like he does. His friends is his next stepping stone.

Yeah it was the most fun time for sure. When Cal was coming was so exciting the whole news cycle leading up to the hire.

I also knew pretty quickly who MeManBoy was when he started posting here again. Maggard has a distinct posting style and way of conversing if you've seen him online a lot. Plus no coincidence right after Orlando was hired back.

While browsing Twitter today, two Star Wars (I am a huge fan) bloggers that I follow, who both have credible sites, were fighting like cats and dogs, accusing one of stealing info and not crediting the other. However, it seems to be occurring more often between the two and I couldn't help but be reminded of the Matt Jones/Marc Maggard feud. Who here remembers that ordeal? It was around ten years ago if I remember correctly and for me personally, it provided a lot of comedy. I remember checking KSR back then to read disses against ole "Frosted Tips" more than for UK insight. It was also discussed quite a bit on this board and was related to the recruitment of some players (Patterson/Lucas, Eloy Vargas, etc). I just figured I'd see if any other RR members recall those "good ole days" lol

I was there for the whole thing, albeit under a different name. I was perma banned under that old name. Their feud was quite entertaining.

Very true. Maggard was a major *** but his recruiting info was too notch. There were a number of times he absolutely knew what was happening behind the scenes.

And then he lost his main source and scammed people out of their money…

Yes, 110% him. He posted on HOB when he came back, but Rowland got rid of em. It was for the best. Marc still tries to create a following on Twitter, but I don't think he has ever gained much traction with it. Also, he's not really connected anymore. Fun thread.

Yeah, I remember that whole deal. Seemed like a tempest in a teapot to me, just guys having ego fights about whose recruiting info was better and where they got their info. I guess if we're trying to determine who won that ego fight, UK fans never hear a word about Mark Maggard these days, so Matt Jones won the UK genre, and he's made a bundle doing so.

Jones stole a bunch of original blog content I wrote way back when my site and KSR were building. Confronted him and he just blocked me and kept doing it.

I’ll admit he parlayed that all into a little empire but he’ll always be a two-bit copyright thief to me.

I'll never forget when he put up fake info on a guy we were supposedly recruiting to see if Jones would put it on his site & sure enough he did. Freakin classic.

Yep, this is the first thing I remember whenever anyone mentions that old Maggard/Jones feud.

Maggard had been accusing Jones of stealing his info and passing it off as his inside scoops from his independent sources. So, to catch him, he intentionally posted fake info to see if Jones would take the bait. And, sure enough, Jones fell for it hook, line and sinker.

I didn’t much like Maggard, but on that day he successfully proved his point and stuck it to Jones. And provided some fun entertainment for the rest of us.

I know someone who made a burner account on KSR board last year during Pope's recruiting and made up stuff and Pilgrim took the information and ran with it on multiple occasions. This guy and myself sat back and laughed for weeks about it .

I remember a few years ago an article appeared on KSR and a poster here just knew it was based on thoughts in his Rafters Thread earlier in the day. As I recall, it was a random subject he wanted to discuss and hours later, there was the article. He was proved right and an apology was issued. I wish I could find the original Thread. But I believe this was in its aftermath. Also this.

They did “take one for the team” during the Higgins debacle, though. They didn’t have much to do with how it all got started, but got blamed unfairly for a lot of shenanigans.
