Heh-heh. Great thread. Yeah Maggard actually had great info for a while. He knew all the behind the scenes happenings of the Terrence Jones recruitment every step of the way.
I'll never forget when he put up fake info on a guy we were supposedly recruiting to see if Jones would put it on his site & sure enough he did. Freakin classic.
Then suddenly he decided he didn't want to do it anymore and stopped posting for a couple months before finally shutting it down, takin the lifers' $500 and providing no product. It takes a special kind of *** to pull that crap. He had so many people plastering his social media sites with complaints that he changed his name to Marc Billingsley. Does wedding photography now. I wonder if he charges $500 for the weekend and once he gets his money, he just disappears after a couple hours.....

Didn't Maggard keep a picture of his girlfriend up on his site and/or on twitter..Sort of like a trophy........Pretty sure she got smart and left him, hence the photo came down

I met Maggard when he was in Paducah for a few months/years. He came across as a con man then. Ran into him in Lexington soon after Gillispie was hired and he was going on about starting a prep school in Lexington. Knew then and there that he was full of crap.
I was also a moderator for TBK.
Maggard had some great inside information.
He shared much of it on our moderator board days before it went public and was usually dead on.
I was sorely disappointed in him when he totally just dropped his site and paying customers.

I was a Mod for all of MM's sites, and the funny thing is, he was wrong on purpose. He posted on the Mod forum that he was putting out misleading info about Vargas and Payne, and that they would both be at UK. I remember I copied and pasted his post on here and at KSR when everybody was blasting him about it, and it got deleted within minutes at both sites.
I remember the maggard days as well talk about fun. Rayodar was the poster who ran into ramel bradley. That was the best thread ever. I don't think he ever recovered from that epic thread. It's 1a with the john wall thread. May he post in peace

I actually met Maggard and attended the Houston/Ky game with him, what's now, several years back. Seemed pretty straight up, yet a "cocky/Con Man" air to him. Personally, I think he ran a pretty legit site. Never got caught up in the feud, but like most, was entertained by it.
Where his slid down on a "greased pole" fast was how he ended his web site. A lot of people lost money on that one...which is wrong...which is illegal. But not I.

Before Maggard started his site, he went around to other sites in an effort to leverage them to launch his platform.
His personality seemed to cause frictions wherever he went. I dealt with him before any of that which had me disliking him immensely.
My dislike grew whenever his sycophants would show up to throw shade on everything that wasn't connected to him.
Based on what I've read, how he left pretty much sums up his character overall.

I remember Hoover as well. I'm not sure if he ever tried to profit from his information. He just wanted to be known as the guy who was the most connected.
The problem with trying to become a credible "insider" is you're dealing with 17 year olds going up against elite coaches whose livelihood is convincing 17 years old they are the best. So even if your information is up to date, it may only have a shelf life of 2 hours - and on a message board you're going to get shredded touting your credentials and then being wrong. And in most cases, their information isn't up to date, they aren't hearing it from the recruit but someone connected to the recruiting process.
I never understood then nor do I understand now those who come on here with a "take it to the bank" guarantee on their info. The only way you're going to be successful is building a history of being right coupled with humility for when its wrong.

He claimed to be throwing out misdirection at the request of UK. Really? UK was that concerned about landing Eloy Vargas? So they asked some hothead with a website and a couple hundred (if that many) subscribers to lead the charge in spreading false info? And that valiant effort somehow protected their interests. Just a bizarre world he and his frosted minions were living in.
He was indicted for selling fake Spring Break accommodations (all in one travel vouchers), while I was a student at UK years ago. The first of many "message board confidence men" to come.

I have always assumed he locked himself into a wrong position and then refused to admit it for whatever reason. Then he concocted his wrong on purpose scheme. Regardless I'm not sure I could trust anyone associated with that site as a moderator
I had thousands of post years ago, then when they did one of the changeovers, and I lost them, never really cared since I had quit posting. I was once even a mod on Rivals Kentucky Preps board. Oh and LOL at lost message board credibility.
That's an era of UK basketball I try to forget. The way grown men publicly pursued teenage boys for where they are going to school became increasingly creeping as more people started getting invoved.

I have never understood the opinion that it's "creepy" to follow collegiate recruiting. Sounds like arrogance to hold that opinion.

I remember Greg Hoover at Wildcats Thunder back in the day. He would get in pissing contests with everyone he could. If you responded with facts to his absurd Anti-Cal BS, it would shut him up. Others engaged in the battle of idiocy with him and he would beat them with experience. I've seen his picture on UK websites before and recognized him a few years back when I ran into him at the San Antonio airport. Think he was a writer for another UK site at one time (Scout.com if not mistaken) and got fired because he was a total *** in regards to the way he handled himself towards anyone who disagrees with him. He sure thought he knew it all and what he did not know, made up. Banned from almost every UK Message Board that I know of. Last I heard from him, tried to start up some chemical plant in Paducah. He is full of crap himself.

Greg is an engineer. He came back to Western Kentucky, and got on at USEC as a shift engineer. Things didn't work out, and his now in St Louis working at a nuke plant I believe. Edit:
