This is what a lot of Iowa fans are calling the way we play in multiple message boards . Didn’t know playing physical in your face d means you are a thug . I guess they are used to watching their own team play d under Fran and giving up 80 plus consistently . I am now rooting against their team for the remainder of season . Honestly think them and Michigan have the most arrogant fan base based on message boards . Illinois fans were giving us lots of compliments for a great game . Iowa fans not so much

I know the Big Ten is starting to feel like home because I'm developing a hate for the other fanbases. Illinois and Indiana are my least favorite when it comes to basketball.

Thug was was Pitt in the early 2000s under howland...with our own Assistant Brandon Knight. He will tell you that we are anything but what those Pitt teams are
This is a stereotype so forgive me but some Iowans have weird quiet arrogance generally so not surprised at smugness coming out on the Internet.

I think the latter . We are supposed to just lay back and let them shoot uncontested threes . Their fans are used to them sitting back in a passive 2/3 zone

Thug ball VS Opie ball. A lot of Iowa flopping and arms flailing. I saw a great effort by Rutgers, so I guess non-Opies playing hard are Thugs to the cow-tippers.
yup - literally part of the Iowa strategy is use of "moving screen" to get "fake" fouls called against the opposing team
I may go on their board and ask if moving screens are thug ball . However I’ve already been called a cry baby and my grammar has been called into question while typing paragraphs on an iPhone

Hi Scarlet Knight fans! I am an Iowa fan, including a paying member on the rivals.com board. The first reference to "Thug ball" was here that I encountered. That doesn't mean that they doesn't exist on the Iowa board, but I can tell you that the consensus of Iowa fans has a great deal of respect for Rutgers', especially your rebounding and defensive effort.
I wish our guys could rebound and play "D" like the Scarlet Knight. That was a tough loss. Iowa has been on the wrong side of a few of those, so I know how it feels.

Im not exaggerating when i say these kids would have a tough time walking into a gym playing pick up ball in urban areas in NJ. Their flopping and touchey fouls wouldnt fly in an open gym. The only way someone can look at our group of players and describe the word “thuggish” to their game is to be a racist.
Iowa (and a lot of the big ten fan bases, sadly) are full of racists. It’s totally normal in the predominantly white farming Midwest. Iowa and Purdue are the biggest public offenders I’ve seen (Twitter, message boards), but Wisconsin, Minnesota, and sadly even Nebraska have their fair share of racists. It’s unbelievable but believable, and a reason why I don’t root for any other Big Ten schools and cherish our victories
