I was there with Cowbell9, ScoobaDawg, Pickle, me and Maroon59. I will add a few things to Michael's view. Michael was on the opposite side of the field from us, and watched the excitement of the linemen. My view was more of the skill athletes.
The practice was spread over two football fields of practice area. Over where we were, not where Michael was, there were a lot of drills for defensive backs which included footwork, keeping hips open, and quick reaction times. The best athletes practicing at Safety were Charles Mitchell (best by far), Zach Smith, and Wade Bonner. I think those three will be our safeties, unless a freshman comes in an challenges. The corners also practiced, and the best of the corners appeared to be Marcus Washington, Damien Anderson, Louis Watson, and Corey Bloomfield. The #1 linebackers were SLB: K.J. Wright, Chris White, and Jamar Chaney. The #1 DL's were Sean Ferguson, Lamarcus Williams, Pernell McFee, and Brandon Cooper. McPhee is a McPhenom. He is the best looking stud on defense.
There were 7 on 7 drills later, and they had the QB's passing to the WR's being covered by the LB's and DB's. Tyson Lee is head and shoulders the best QB we currently have on the field. Cameron Lawrence practiced at QB, and between Chris Relf and Lawrence, I would pick Lawrence. He wasn't as accurate as Tyson Lee, nor as crisp, but he looked to be a real QB. Lee looked 200 pounds as advertised, really muscled up more than last year. Relf still has some troubles with both timing and accuracy of his passes.
The WR's were somewhat of a surprise. Leon Berry looked very good, with excellent hands and some speed. He stood out. Delmon Robinson also looked pretty good. Terrance Davis, a former QB, also looked very good. O'Neal Wilder has good hands, but is still working through the kneecap injury. Brandon McRae, despite having a little hitch in his giddyup, looked pretty good.
Anthony Dixon looks like a thoroughbred. He has really cut weight and seemed to be much quicker and faster. Christian Ducre' also looked very good. Robert Elliot is running with a hitch, but was out there giving it a real try. Arnil Stallworth broke a long run on an out route.
The general attitude of the players was very positive. They cheered when they saw a good play and almost all seemed to be engaged in the practice.
The punt returners working were: Leon Berry, Delmon Robinson, Anthony Dixon, and Terrance Davis.
Mullen really gets involved. In 7 on 7 drills, after about 6-7 passes went incomplete, he yelled out <17> <17> <17> with some other adjectives and words interspersed. In short he asked "when are we going to complete a <17> pass?" Gene the Machine had to cover his ears.
