It was junior day. I guess a good turnout. Don't ask me who was there specifically because I don't know.

Another gusty day. Anyway:

QBs:
Both were inconsistent throwing the ball. Just not real rhythm yet from either. Russell actually made a couple of good plays in the running game. At times Relf looks like he's coming around throwing the ball then he'll miss somebody by ten yards. Also, Stegall and Saunders both have beards but Stegall's is better.

RBs:
Once again, my concern over the position diminishes. There's no big dog like AD, but as a group, they look solid. Montrell struggled some today with pass protection and a fumble. Knox was on his ***. Ballard looked good. Perkins got dinged up some but Perkins works solely with the RBs, despite what he's listed on the roster. I forgot about FBs the other day. Hanrahan and Shumpert look solid.

WRs: Had a good day, I guess. Nothing stands out other than it looks like Heavens, Bumphis, and Sanders will be used in the option game some.

OL:
High school senior (should be) Causell at 2nd team LT. Redshirt freshman Jackson 2nd team LG. They looked decent and I guess that bodes well for the future.

DL:
McPhee was actually rushing from the end from a stand-up position a few times in 11-on-11. Our DL as a whole looks like it's going to be strong. Maybe really strong.

LBs and DBs:
Didn't notice much

Practice:
Still amazed at the change in Mullen and his demeaner throughout practice. And just the pace and the rhythm is so much better. A lot more conversation and less use of the phrase, "What the 17 are you doing?"
Diaz is all over the place. The defense seems to be taking to him and Wilson.
In 11-on-11, like I said before, both QBs were inconsistent. Good play, not so good play, and so on.
Mullen wasn't thrilled with offense in team gathering at the end.

In rushing game team stuff (QBs, RBs, OL vs DL, LBs) it was pretty balanced, which is so different from last year when the defense just whipped the ever living **** out of the OL nearly every play. Just serious smacking going on with O winning some and D winning some. So different from last year.

The last part of practice was 1st and goal from the 5, 1 vs 1, then 2 v 2 back and forth. Relf 1, Russell 2 qb.
1st time: rushing TD
2nd: defense holds
3rd: Relf throws INT on play action
4th: rushing TD
5th: for all the marbles, defense holds on 4th and 1. Defense celebrates big time.

Team gathered, Mullen talked about how unhappy he was with offense, they then break and do it one more time. Rushing TD on 1st play.

Still, offense runs, defense drinks.

Other notes:
Matt Wyatt should be ashamed to wear shorts with legs that white.
For some reason, our baseball team takes BP to Billie 17in Jean. No wonder they can't hit.

haha Hilarious.

It's early spring. Give the dude a break.

He probably doesn't give a 17 anyway.

For some reason, I find this part funny and it makes me feel good at the same time. Good practice report. Thanks

Hilarious:

I called Wyatt and told him about your comment...he cracked up then asked, "this was some DUDE who said that?"

I'm like, "pretty sure". He follows up with, "is he OPENLY gay or does he just have a leg fettish?"

All in good fun, and you're right, I don't think he gives a 17.

The defensive line is going to give the 99-00line a run for their money. The starting 4 could be the best we've had in a long long time.

but does make me remember fondly of how damn badass we were on the DL from really 97-2000...

I growing the wool too, and I think we will be good on the DL- but 98-99 good would be surprising

Carmon is the key. If he lives up to expectations, McPhee, and Cox will run wild.

I don't think they'll be quite that good, but they'll be close.

The 99 DL was a legit two deep with no drop-off across the board.

while watching this week. They are physically impressive and I've been thinking they could be pretty damn good. Just trying not to get too fired up after the first week.

I'll also say this. Last year during spring there were several positions I'd watch and think, we are gonna really suck. I swear I didn't think we'd win three games even though it was obvious we were going to be much better coached. Those positions were OL, QB, WR, and DB. Now, you look at those positions and actually see solid groups of players, maybe even strengths.</p>

let's not compare it to one of the great Defensive Lines in college football history.

6 D-linemen went on to play in the NFL: Blade, Golliday, Dorsett Davis, Hilliard, McKinley, and Ellis Wyms. And a 7th, Kevin Sluder, signed a free agent contract.

We also had several good DE's that could pressure the QB like Connor Stevens, Cornell Menafee, and Mario Haggan. This team hasn't shown they can get a pass rush, particularly the DE's opposite McPhee.
