okay, for all the haters, I'm actually going to write some sentences, particularly since it was a full-pads day and a lot more to notice:

already noted:
-cam lawrence working with ath/wrs/tes
-thin, thin at wr. becoming more evident everyday

other:
-lots of pep at practice and it seems like the players are getting more in rhythm with the tempo of practice
-lots of competition, jawing between offense and defense
-everything is full speed. Ex: we don't ever just line up and kick a field goal or extra point. If it's being kicked, then someone is trying like hell to block it.
-mcphee is a man. he and Love could turn out to be pretty good in the middle.
-first team dbs in the nickel during 7 on 7: Mitchell, Anderson, Broomfield, Smith, Bonner
-returning kickoffs today: Berry and Bonner (apparently the staff didn't watch film of last year and how terrified Bonner was returning kicks)
-O'Neal Wilder and Berry at least look like SEC wrs. TBD.
-Mullen spent a lot of time today with qb, rb, and wr drills
-one other thing: I admit that I have never seen Relf in anything other than the spring game last year and whatever mop-up duty he has done, but he has improved more since the first practice than he has in the last two years. Noticeably more accurate (though that ain't sayin much) and seemingly has a clue what's going on most of the time
-edited to add: during the DL vs OL with RBs, the OL actually wins every now and then

And one more thing that I know plenty of you will enjoy:
-Mike Hunt was hurt today

the thought crossed my mind today, that although we might still suck, we will at least have the appearance of a contemporary college football team. So I guess it's optimism about staff more than anything.

bottom line, we will look like a football team this year.

Under Croom, our team fans and university looked like a joke. Other teams laughed at us. And not venomous laughs of jealousy either. People genuinely felt sorry for us.

Some of my enjoyment of the Egg Bowl was tempered with this emotion. I have no idea where it came from, but it existed. It didn't last long though.

He apparently is the type of freakishly fast/freakishly big player that can play on the end and do it well. It makes such a difference having a guy like that on the end. Moving him inside just limits what he can do from a pass rushing standpoint so much.

I was enjoying the thought of them collapsing the entire side of our opponents' offensive lines. I shouldn't be surprised, we have been moving people out of position to cover up talent problems forever - but I was hoping Love and Co. could hold down the middle.

I bet the coaches do, too. Maybe somebody will emerge in the middle between now and August and move him to DE. But I doubt it.
