he is shattering a record that has stood nearly 20 years. Will Thigpen be in attendance at the record breaking game? Does anyone outside of this board know who Bobby Thigpen is?

Hell, I didn't know this: LINK

In other pitching record news, Oswalt is at 32 1/3 scoreless innings in a row. Only three more complete game shut outs and he'll break a record. Damn, 59 scoreless in a row is pretty remarkable.

he hasn't pitched one outing of more than three outs. The majority of his saves have no men on base, and he inherits more two run leads than any closer. I don't remember the specifics.

It's far too easy to get one and closers today are babied almost to the point of disbelief. None of these guys putting up big numbers (including Thigpen) could hold the jock strap of guys like Bruce Sutter and Goose Gossage. Those guys pitched back when closers were men.

to that Sutter/Gossage era. He has pitched more than an inning in over half his relief appearances since becoming a closer. 5 of his 8 saves are 1.1, 1.2, or 2.0 innings. Oh yeah, his ERA is 0.52. Kinda cool I think. Much more impressive than K-Rod who comes in the 9th inning with a 7-4 lead.
