Tiger out again

Ruptured Achilles. Will undergo surgery, miss the Masters. No timeline for return. As I read about it, I pictured the old commercial that warned kids to not do steroids and showed a statue of a man crumbling apart. No clue if he did steroids, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Anyway, this is a bummer.

As a fan of golf, I hate it because he brings so much attention to the game, but it's time to accept that he's physically cooked. I think he may play a few more tournaments before he calls it a career, but I don't see him finishing a grueling major ever again.

He’s only finished 3 of the last 13 events he’s entered. Either missed the cut or withdrew in The other 10

Crazy how a few years ago most people thought it was a virtual lock that he would easily pass Jack as the greatest major champion of all time. When you think about what happened to him, the whole story really is wild.

He’ll never compete for another Major.
And glad Jack will be the all time king of golf.

What’s really wild is that what you call a few years ago was all the way back in 2008. Fittingly, 17 years ago

He won his 14th all the way back in 2008 in a US Open playoff with Rocco, and if you’d told me then that he’d only win one more over his next 60+ opportunities, I’d have said that you were out of your ever loving mind

Not to mention the vastly greater advantages Tiger had in equipment, balls, golf course conditions, sports medicine, travel, etc and still couldn’t outdo Nicklaus.

Ok I guess the better way to say it is at their prime Tiger was the best golfer ever. Jack obviously had the better overall career.

From 1997-2009, Tiger Woods was the most dominant force to ever play golf. Nicklaus had much more longevity in his career, but in those 12 years, Tiger was on a complete other level. He won 14 majors and 69 tournament in those 12 years. No one will ever dominate golf like that ever again.

I actually thought he retired from regular golf and was all in on his Top Golf league. I really only have cultural awareness of pro golfers.

From 1997-2009 (13 years), Tiger finished in the top 5 of majors 26 times and in the top 10 32 times, he missed the cut once and didn't play twice. In Nicklaus most dominant 13 years, he finished in the top 5 32 times and top 10 43 times and missed one cut. Yes, he only won 10 majors during that time (4 fewer than Tiger in the same time), but he had a LOT more top 5 and top 10 finishes.

Ask Tiger what his goal was. He didn’t achieve it. Jack won 18 with no one to chase. Tiger likely would have passed him, but…pick your excuse. I hate he messed himself up with poor decisions

I agree, Nicklaus is number one. Tiger’s body, and his poor decision making, let him down. His body is in shambles now. He really needs to just retire. It’s sad watching him play simulator golf and not even doing that all that well.

After he had his 1st downfall, there were SO many people who said he was out, would never win a major again.
I disagreed w/ all of them, saying "he ain't done yet".
Then a few years later, he was back at the #1 spot, and people still said he'd never win a major.
I disagreed w/ all of them, saying "he ain't done yet".
Then he won the Masters for the 5th time in 2019, and everybody rejoiced (including me, it was awesome).
I love being right, and was right up until that point.
THEN he had that car wreck, and people said he'd never play golf again. Obviously he is playing some, and he is super-human, but he's 49 years old now and his body has been thru some major crap. I hate to say it, but he's likely not going to win again.

I think if you really look at the records, Jack's most dominant 10-12 years is right up there with Tiger's. It's 1A and 1B, and you could make a pretty good argument for either of them. But that's splitting hairs. They're easily the two best golfers ever, and nothing either of them has done takes anything away from what the other has done.
