Williams seems to already have work lined up. Who knows when Tiger will be back (for more than a handful of tournaments).</div>

In the sense that they are damn near professional golfers themselves and carrying the clubs is just a very minor part of their job (with the majority being coaching, advice, ect.)

I was watching some old school golf highlights (cerca 60s-70s) and the golfers had what appeared to be random black guys in white jumpsuits toting their clubs. For all I know, those caddies could have been professional caddies like today...but I couldn't help thinking "DAMN! **** was crazy racial back in the day!". Not that I didn't realize that era was marked by racial events, but to see it extend to the apex of professional golf was eye-opening, to say the least.

Now, I don't want this to go racial due to my previous anecdote, so I'll restate my question. When did professional caddies become a large aspect of professional golf? In the late 70's or 80's sometime?

Williams's 10 per cent of his employer's earnings was enough to make him New Zealand's highest paid 'sportsman' several times over the past decade.

before 1983 all the caddies were assigned to the players and most of the local caddies were black.

It wasn't just most....it was ALL! Check this **** out from wikipedia..... It was even MORE racial than you and me previously thought.

Quote: Before 1982 all players in the Masters were required to use the services of an Augusta National Club caddy, who by club tradition was always an African American.[20] Indeed, club co-founder Clifford Roberts is reputed to have said, "As long as I'm alive, golfers will be white, and caddies will be black."[21] Since 1982, players have been allowed the option of using their own caddy

Apparently, Mr. Roberts love himself some white people.

black Caddie Master at Augusta Nat'l. Good book and I dont think the black caddies felt they were being discriminated against.

Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer
caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change.
After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock.
Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger's
scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling
through injuries I am very disappointed to end our very successful
partnership at this time. I have had the opportunity to work of late for
Australian Adam Scott
and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis. Having started my
caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the 80's I am excited about the future working for another Australian.

Williams is Pissed
