I know many will be happy about this because Sully is a crotchety old school media type. But I personally see this as a big negative for our local media coverage. Sully is the one guy at a press conference that isn’t afraid to ask a tough question and isn’t afraid that his access will get revoked by asking the “wrong” question. You need guys like that, especially as UofL cannot seem to avoid tripping over its own feet at every turn.

Screw him well maybe you didnt pay much attention to his article he wrote a week or so ago. With the new Rick allegations well if you know this or not this past week the the allegations were were released and just as Rick's lawyers stated and what a lot of of us already knew their was nothing new. Ole Tim was called out on it he went silent with no retracted story on his wrong crap. He was not U of L friend and never would follow up on any of the crap on UK. So the heck with with him and all the local UK lovers and U of Lhaters.

I don’t think all the media needs to be “friends” with UofL. They do need to be fair in their reporting. If he wasn’t fair, then it should be called out. But a true, impartial media serves as a conscience when done right.

There is a difference between a reporter “asking tough questions“ and exhibiting responsible journalism. Sullivan was one of the least responsible and fair-minded writers that ever graced the CJ.

I was a subscriber to the CJ and the old Louisville Times for over 30 years before I cancelled out. For at least 20 of those 30 years, it was only the sports section that justified my patronage. Dean Eagle, Mike Barry, Dave Kindred, Billy Reed, Dick Fenton were some notable writers back in the day who wrote some powerful and insightful articles, but most worked under the Bingham family control. The paper was not perfect then by any means, but once Gannett assumed ownership it declined rather quickly.

Sullivan was unworthy of association with any of the aforementioned.

Quick follow up; Gannett News (USA Today) which owns the CJ is having to further furlough staff as revenues continue to decline and expenses continue to erode profit.

No prediction yet on the end of the CJ, but clearly it is a very poor investment for Gannett, and is occurring at a time when the parent company is “printing red ink”. We can all look for further erosion of any quality out of this local paper.

The speed of information has killed the print news paper. It also has killed the traditional journalists or editorial process. There is no double checking sources. It all moves to fast for the traditional process the play out.

Sullivan is no different than other media negative is what sells especially in KY when it comes the Louisville. The latest attempt was ridiculous and he knows it. It was extremely sloppy work. This new world has to be very tough on the older journalist.

I still get the CJ as I like a physical paper in my hands….not because I value their content. Their sports section has basically become a capture of USA Today’s national news stories on pro sports teams. They also seem big on HS sports. The value of their content is poor at best. so, this may be the reason for Sully’s layoff. Or, it may be that he let his anti UL bias affect his reporting so much that the editors couldn’t defend keeping him.

Oldham Card: having an actual paper in my hand to read is what I miss most about cancelling the CJ so long ago.
