Facts are that we were once at the top of the SEC in baseball facilities. Right now, we may be tenth at best. We haven't had any sustained success in baseball in several years. We can't give as much scholarship money as some other schools unless we find half a team worth of players that we can give academic schollies to, which isn't an ideal situation. We don't have a whole lot to sell to recruits over florida, lsu, S.C., etc. at this point. About half of Cohen's first recruiting class showed up with arm problems and one that I remember with an attitude problem. That was a setback. The juco players that he brought in hit the ball pretty well last year, but the problem was that we didn't have enough pitching. This year, we have the pitching but not the hitting, due to some extent b/c the position players are very young. How some of you people expect to finish in the top half of the SEC at this point is laughable. It is going to be a steady and gradual improvement, not two recruiting classes and all of a sudden we are national 17ing champions. And another thing, baseball isn't football where a coach with good ability can out scheme another coach with better players and find a way to win. In baseball, you must have the better talent. It is going to take time. And don't forget that when we hired Cohen, just about any baseball person with a voice talked about how we made a great, home run hire with Cohen. The rebels were the only people that I remember saying it was a ****** hire. Them and some people on here who just want to go against Coach34 b/c he is Coach34.

AND, the bitching on this board is making it unreadable. I'm impressed with the way we're playing at LSU this weekend...and yes, it's also frustrating.

No Cohen team has given me a reason to expect anything but in year 4 we should be expecting more. Btw Kentucky is doing fine with less.

Let Kentucky be there at the end of the year, then let's talk about "doing fine with less". They've won 2 good games this weekend, I give them that... First decent competition they've faced...

Everyone on here, including myself, liked the hire.

Some of you people just can't admit that he simply isn't getting the job done.

recruited by lsu, florida, and arkansas and tell the kid "Our facilities aren't as good as those schools. We haven't won any national titles like they have, actually we totally sucked *** with a losing record not very long ago. I can't give you as much scholarship money as they can. But I'm John 17ing Cohen and the six-pack readers think we should un17 the program in three years, so you should come to MSU." And he has to convince a roster full of these type recruits to choose us over those other schools just to get up to their level of talent. And on top of that, as freshmen and sophomores they have to beat LSU, S.C., and florida's juniors and seniors who are equally as talented. Dear God, my 17ing head is about to explode. Cohen might be the shitiest coach of all time at the end of the day, but you can't rationally judge at this point.

This baseball season is gonna require thick skin when visiting this board. I think the team improves as the year progresses (and players return) and we'll be able to compete with anyone by late April...a VERY patient year.

Yes, if you told me when we made the hire where we would be 3.5 yrs in, I'd be disappointed. I dont think any of us fully realized just how bare the cupboard was after Polk delivered our first losing season in 40 years. Fact is, Cohen is probably disappointed in the speed of the turn around as well. Let's step back and look at it logically though. He has had 4(3 true) recruiting classes. He messed up badly in the first two. No one is denying that. Polk's recruiting had set us back three seasons, and Cohen's first two classes set us back two more.

That said, we've got the freshmen and sophs on this team, right now, to compete for championships as upper-classmen, assuming recruiting stays on this same level or better for the next 3 years. Our logical goal this season was to make the SEC tournament and regionals.

Next year is when the rubber better meet the road for Cohen in a big way... Because the expectations for those of us that look at this logically are going to be much higher with all the talented experience we will be returning...

This should be grounds for firing him. You just can't mess up badly in recruiting 2 years in a row. Houston Nutt damn sure didn't get fired for his 2011 recruiting class. That was a pretty good class for them. But you didn't see anyone saying, give him time, he messed up badly in recruiting for a couple of years but he's got a good young group of players/

There's a lot of excuse making going on here. But at some point Cohen has to produce some wins, and a fluke regional win because of a lucky draw doesn't just somehow magically make the program on the right track.</p>

Keeping in mind, I pay much more attention to basketball and football, but it seems all his classes have been highly ranked. I guess I'm forgetting busts and drafts.

We beat all 3 teams in the Atlanta regional and played Florida all the way down to the wire. Our final RPI was 16. We deserved to be a Super Regional team, and we were.<div>
</div><div>But I keep forgetting that 2011 doesn't count to Cohenbashers since it destroys your arguments.</div>

But if you're gointto claim injuries as an excuse for these 4 losses, you're going to have to agree thatit's a fluke when you play a team with their 2 best players on the bench injured (and their 3rd best player in a 3- for 30 slump). And it's a fluke when you don't have to face the #1 seed until they're down to their #5 starter (who had pitched 11 innings in his career). We didn't do anything special at all that weekend, things just fell into our laps. We did play a good series against Florida the next weekend though.

Sure, the Dude needs some work, and it's fallen off. But as far as what our players use for practice an whatnot, we're right up there with anyone. Also, the playing surface at Dudy Noble is still the best in college baseball. Our baseball facility issues are more about fans than players. About bathrooms, concession stands, and aesthetics, not about baseball itself.
