I get sick and 17ing tired of hearing our fans bleat about playing southern miss and or a "national" out of conference opponent. First things first. Playing southern miss is an absolute 17ing no win situation. The only place that it might help is at the gate, but that doesn't outweigh the negatives. We beat them, so 17ing what? I live in hattiesburg and it takes me until tuesday to find out if they won or lost each saturday. The only way they make news is if they beat a team from the SEC. They beat us and it will be on espn simply b/c we are in the SEC. We lose to them and we look that much worse to recruits. It has nothing to do with beating southern for recruits. It is the recruits that we are battling olemiss, alabama, and auburn for that we don't want to look any worse too. We play 8 17ing SEC games! We don't need another tough game. Second thing is, the 17ing dumbass fans that, if we ever have another winning season again will start calling to play Southern Cal or Ohio State or some such ******** b/c they want to be entertained. I want to schedule a 17ing YMCA team for out of conference games. When it is time to sign on the dotted line, recruits notice 8-4 or 9-3. They don't generally analyze the hell out of the schedule. They just want to know if you win more than you lose. Rant over.

I live here in the burg as well. Seems to be lots of talk about it happening very soon. Most people say it's a done deal and will be announced within the year. I don't really care either way.

about not playing USC, and OSU, I have no problem playing USM. Reason being, I don't see them as challenging to the point where we have something like a less than 20% chance of beating them. And I'm not saying that we would 100% for sure beat them, but it's not exactly a team that I look at the schedule and say "nope" or "probably not".

As far as the recruiting, we're still in the SEC. I think that has a lot of merit with recruits, at least if I was a recruit it would. We would also still draw better, play more difficult opponents, even with a cupcake schedule, and you have the opportunity to play in better bowl games- the Peach is better than anything that C-USA can offer. I'm not sure that it would hurt recruiting that much if we did lose to them. That's almost like saying that because we lose the Egg Bowl, that we're going to lose recruits. It just doesn't work like that for the most part. It might affect one or two guys at most, and if a guy chooses a school based on the results of one game, we probably don't want them in the first place.

Another thing that people aren't talking about- should we beat them, USM can't say or manipulate the on field results to say that they have a winning record against MSU. The only reason that they do is because of a couple of BS forfeits of games that we won during the Tyler era.

My stance is- no more than twice every six years. I don't think we should play USM every year- mainly because I don't want to automatically eat up a non-conference spot, but that ratio is not bad. If Byrne works out a two home for one road deal, so be it.

And about ESPN- they can't even get MSU and Ole Miss straight. Why do you think that they would suddenly care about MSU/USM? They would care more about MSU/JSU than MSU/USM because of the "race implications", and they didn't give much of a flying crap about that. So, what does that tell you about what they would think about MSU/USM? They may say it's a "rivalry" mainly because of lack of research and laziness. But aside from that, no one in Mississippi cares.

I do think that USM would sell more tickets than JSU for a couple of reasons- one believe it or not, USM probably draws better than JSU. two - USM actually has a legit chance to win. Most of the JSU fans knew what was going into that game, and many went because of the fact that it was an in-state SEC program, which was a big thing for them. But very few people want to watch their beloved team get beat down, no matter what the implications are.

Why does it take you that long to find out their score. The games are on rock 104. WDAM sports talks about them every night. The HattiesburgAmerican sports section has things about them daily. I really don't get that.

If you live in h'burg and it takes you that long to find out their score, you're either blind, deaf, or getting your news from reading the comics. Don't post asinine statements like that. Makes you look like a dubmass.

I asked for 2 days until I found out if they won last weekend. Of course, no one could tell me who they played.

and it will always be a huge challenge just to keep up. Us playing another in state D1 school who will make us their most emotional/important game of the year is just plain dumbassed. When we did this crap before it was always a game that our coaches had real problems getting our players fired up for. Southern would come out of their dressing room with smoke coming out of their nostrils and our guys always acted like they didn`t really want to be there. The game is a coach killer and no experienced coach would ever want any part of it. Bad deal then bad deal now.

I would imagine that 7 out of 10 random people that you walked up to in starkville couldn't tell you who we played this past wkend, or tell you the score. Just out of curiosity, I just texted my brother (lives in s'ville), and he said, "I thought they played auburn this week"

That may have been the case 20 years ago but I don't think it'll be an issue now. Like it or not, USM isn't a teacher's college anymore and I think our team will be fine motivation-wise if we play them.

Having said that, if we play them we'd damn well better win. If y'all thought La Tech's two fans were terrible after we lost to them last year, it won't be anything compared to how the USM jackasses will be if we drop a game to them.
