My preference as well. I hate the idea of an up-tempo or gimmicky offense. Gets you in trouble if your D is not elite.I love this style of offense, just hate the coaching and execution!
I've always been a big fan of Ken Niumatalolo (Navy) & Troy Calhoun (Air Force). But going to that style offense would require almost a total redo in recruiting offensive personnel. Not sure our fan base would be patient enough to allow that change to happen .Calhoun does have some spread concepts in his offense and I love both of those offenses. But I feel if we do change coaches, our fanbase will want go big name (Chip Kelly type). Personally, I would l like Coach Ken because I love that style of offense and he's a hard nose coach. My nephew played for him at Navy so I a bit biased towards him. He would fit Nebraska perfectlyWhat about the Navy coach?
Cool, but I was just using him as an example of type of big name coach. No Chip Kelly, please.
Agreed.I love this style of offense, just hate the coaching and execution!

Don't need elite level talent to run up temp or "gimmicky offense" to stress some very good defenses though. My preference as well. I hate the idea of an up-tempo or gimmicky offense. Gets you in trouble if your D is not elite.
But wait we are a balanced team we are not a pass first teamToo bad Art Briles is a despicable human.
I know... which is why in big games that gets you in trouble against good defenses. I would build around the defense and control the ball type offense.Don't need elite level talent to run up temp or "gimmicky offense" to stress some very good defenses though.
- 3rd and 7 at NIU 33
(8:46 - 4th) Tanner Lee pass incomplete to Bryan Reimer
You're probably right about that. In terms of these option offenses, I know some people talked Paul Johnson a few years back. Personally, I think Niumatalolo is better because is more involved defensively. Navy doesn't have top talent, but they usually have hard-nosed defensive teams. They also run a 3-4. He is a no BS kind of coach but his players will run through walls for him (maybe that has to do with the culture of the young men that attend the Naval Academy). Should have had the BYU job 2 years ago, certain people in the BYU admin didn't think that offense would fit at BYU. Like what they have now is any good....lol.Got it. Guys like Chip Kelly will not stick around long enough. We need someone who will build something and either be here for the long-haul or leave a legacy staff.
Yep.Reimers drop a S Ketters drop were killers.
So...almost every Riley-coached game?RUN THE BALL GUY always come out the woodwork when RUN THE BALL GUY smells the stink.
What teams recruited them?Reimers drop and Ketters drop were killers.
I'm with you 100%, unfortunately most of our fan base won't because it's "living in the past". It would give us an identity and very rarely do option teams like GT, Navy, or Air Force lose games they are not supposed to. They are difficult to prepare for because you rarely see them. And for me, they are fun as heck to watch.Let's go back to the option. Sure, it will take 3 years to recruit the players needed - but we're sunk anyway.
How about run the ball guys come out when they want to be "won the game guys"RUN THE BALL GUY always come out the woodwork when RUN THE BALL GUY smells the stink.

So did football some how magically change when riley was hired that the teams with strong running games win the most ? Is that now different?
Run the ball guy doesn't care.
Run the ball guy knows little about magic or football.
Run the ball guy just yells run the ball.
ball to reimers hit him right in the chest. no excuse for that. i wouldn't have run the ball at crunch time either - the run game was awful all day.
hence the sorry state of Nebraska football, we went through this with Callahan and now Riley and still the debate rages on - Nebraska wins more games when we have a physical running game with a dual threat QBRun the ball guy doesn't care.

What does pass the ball guy do?

As long as it has not involve throwing a bubble screen on the opponents 10 yard line with a 2nd and 3 I am good with itI don't think a dual threat QB is a requirement but a run focused offense that can often convert 3rd and short without throwing the football is IMO. That doesn't mean run it 80% of the time, just give them a nice physical dose of it. Sometimes you need a hard earned yard, hard to do when an effective running game isn't the highest priority.
