...thought that was cool. Also, the forecasters seem to think we're 3.5 days away from landfall with Gustav. At the same time with Katrina, here was the forecast. Like Goat and Cb9 say, they obviously released this prediction about Katrina just to make a splash and create a media frenzy. I mean.. they could have told us it was going to hit LA/MS if they'd wanted to.

At this point out the final landfall for Katrina wasnt even in the cone. On the Friday before the storm we all were just as normal as could be...kind of a "See you on Monday" type attitude. 6 days later we came back to the office to meet with no power and all hell broke loose. As I recall it wasnt until sometime on Sat that we really got worked up.
Im really, really hoping this thing doesnt pull something like that out of its hat and switch back east.

Beyond 3 days in weather forecasting is pretty inaccurate. Even with the best forecast models around, they cant predict the real thing. Just look at the GFDL in the last 3 days, its been a westward movement of its forecast track every time. I dont think anyone can pinpoint where the location will be til Sunday night.
Come on, you gotta be kidding me. He should have never put that in there, he should just say get the hell out. Now folks are gonna think 90% chance of nothing, models point to texas, blah blah blah. IF the GFDL is right, then we don't need to worry about re-rebuilding new orleans, it will just be returned to the ocean.
Funny thing is they just weeks ago finally got additional funding in the amount of 1.8 BILLION dollars approved for more Katrina re-building..including re-building the wetlands and barrier islands which are disappearing at a rate of 35 square miles annually.
