Even Jon Wilner--PAC 12s number one journalist, understands that the PAC is likely done. He throws jabs at the BIG 12 one day,, then the next puts out that the BIG 12 is the landing spot for many PAC schools most likely and that the BIG 12 has the upper hand should more realignment occur. But if you read his articles, they mostly conclude that A) Pac schools are going to leave. B) The BIG 12 is a likely landing spot when all is said and done. Here's a blurb from a day or two ago from the Seattle Times by Wilner illustrating his understanding of the timeline of unfolding events: From the Seattle Times per Jon Wilner [HEADING=2]4. Tricky timing for Oregon and Washington[/HEADING] In an ideal world, the Pacific Northwest powers would do absolutely nothing for the next two years. They would remain exactly where they are, without a long-term contract binding them to either the Pac-12 or the Big 12. Why? Because free agency is the place until the Big Ten and Notre Dame finish their long, slow dance. Notre Dame’s contract with NBC expires at the conclusion of the 2025 season, clearing the way for the Irish to join the Big Ten for ’26 — the first year of the expanded College Football Playoff. And if the Big Ten adds a 17th team, it would need an 18th — and possibly a 19th and 20th, as well. Washington and Oregon would be strong candidates, as would Stanford (because of the academic reputation and Bay Area media market). Part of the challenge for Kliavkoff as he attempts to hold the conference together is crafting an agreement that serves two masters: — Binding enough to induce quality bids from potential media partners. — Flexible enough to satisfy Pac-12 schools with one eye on the Big Ten. So WHY, if you are the four corners schools, would you sign off with Oregon or Washington? They are going to LEAVE THE PAC 12 at the first opportunity and you know it. They aren't making it a secret. The next iteration of the college playoff would also start just when Wilner discusses the Irish joining up with the Big Ten --in 2026. Very likely the timeline for ND, ACC and also PAC schools who can to move, in that 2025-2026 window.
